ONE Fighting Championship has eliminated its "open-attack" rule for soccer kicks, officials today announced.

The decision came a few days after the often-confusing rule resulted in an Andrei Arlovski vs. Tim Sylvia heavyweight contest being declared a no-contest this past weekend at ONE FC 5.

Instead, soccer kicks are now legal at all times, and the referee no longer has to distinguish when they're an option.

"Effective immediately, ONE FC has adopted full PRIDE rules for soccer kicks," the organization announced via Twitter.

The organization's next event, "ONE FC 6: Rise of the Kings," will be the first to feature the rules change. The event takes place Oct. 6 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, and it's again expected to be available as an online pay-per-view.

Brilliant. That was by far the dumbest rule ever. I understand what they were trying to do, but it was ridiculous.

I don't know why people are trying to reinvent the wheel. There are American MMA rules and JMMA rules....until they are intergrated it's what you got. I don't know what is taking that so long, but whatever.

and the 'open attack' rule is what got Moreira in trouble of his beautiful soccer kick ko of Huerta..glad they went full pride rule, now Arlovski and Sylvia need another rematch, cuz that was crap judging and ending to that fight.

Matt Hume is a boss. His scoring system adopted for ONE FC is already way better than used in the unified rules and faced with the decision of eliminating or making fully legal, soccer kicks, they are now fully legal. Applaud this man.

Happy to hear it.

Unfortunately a case of too little too late for Mr. Arlovski.

I do enjoy the use of soccer kicks, adds a whole other dimension. I hope that they also allow knees to a grounded opponent, but stomps need to remain a thing of the past, just like headbutting.
