The answer is BOTH
cowardly and unfortunately smart. While both are wrestlers, one would stand and one would hug, therefore much of his camp had been wasted. He would have been in shape and on weight, but you have to be ready for a guy like Sonnen. A gameplan is important against a guy that can close distance like Sonnen does, and all he had to do against Hendo was watch for the big right.

Maybe someone can fight Sonnen on 8 days notice for your main event.

Tim Sylvia is probably available.

The problem is that no one else has the balls to take a fight on 8 days notice except for Chael Sonnen.

Maybe he could fight his clone

The fact is this was Jone's fight to take and he punked out. In trying to save Jone's career, Greg Jackson may have destroyed it.

Honestly.. I can't blame him for his decision. He's the champion and the belt makes a big difference when it comes down to his money and fame. If I was the champion and I HAD the choice, I would do the same as him.

BUT, he is in fact the champion, so he SHOULDN'T have the choice to turn down a fight. As the champion, you fight who and when they tell you to fight. As the champion, you are supposedly the best in the world and should have the ability to beat anyone. If your original opponent is replaced it shouldn't matter, just another man standing across the cage wanting the belt.

To make it worse for Jones, consider the fact Chael Sonnen is a natural 185er and won't have a full training camp while Jones could fight at HW and only happens to be eight days from his original fight date.

I would have to agree with this. It really was a no win situation for Jon. If nothing else, why not fight, but without the title on the line? That would have saved the card, possibly gained Jon more of a fan base, and if Bones lost, he would still have the title, blame the short notice and change of fighter for his loss. Chael then earns a title shot, or at least a fight with Machida, who may or may not have accepted. I'm not too mad at Jon's decision though.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

I agree with this part to an extent. In terms of how Jones was saying he doesn't want to fight Machida next. He shouldn't have much in a say of that, but do I think Machida has earned another shot? No.

Now this is an extreme situation. 8 days notice and a guy who has been at MW. Idk, if the fight would have been for the title or not. Though, I think it shouldn't have been for the title as Sonnen hasn't earned nothing.

Sure he made a smart business move on some levels, ie he keeps his strap, but he's now going to be one of the least popular fighters in UFC history and he screwed other fighters, fans, sponsors, and his employers by not taking the fight. It falls more under the stupid category than the smart category in my mind.

Dana's made a similar move to Jon's.

Cancelling the card. He could have let them all still fight, but he's basically saying no one on the card is big enough a draw. Would it have brought in small numbers? Yeah, but stuff like that is going to happen in business.

That's not a terrible point at all, but they were going to stand to lose more money due to paying fighter salaries and have a huge fan backlash had they tried to sell that card on PPV. He did what Kenny Rogers said, "know when to fold em."

That's not a bad argument though 20.

Would they be able to get out of the ppv if they could? Like if they had like facebook and fuel broadcast it. I can't remember if they've done something like that, made a ppv card into a free card.

I think they have, but I can't remember exactly which event it was. It's probably just too close to the air date to make those kind of changes now. Last time I think it was a month or 2 out.

Apparently Chris Weidman offered to step up and face Jones.

They don't own FX, so I doubt they could just move the card there in a weeks time. I'm guessing they have contracted dates and times set up with FX already.

Oh wait, I see what you're saying. But still, FX would have to be on board.
