I said coward.

Listen guys, I know we're all upset about losing the card, and I know we all hate Jones right now, but please keep it as clean as possible. I will let you know that I will turn the other cheek to a certain degree if you want to air your disappointment as long as you don't take it too far.

I'd say smart or wise. Sonnen hasn't earned a shot at his title.

Wasn't a big fan of Sonnen being thrown in there just to save the fight.

I mean, Jones shouldn't have to accept the fight. He also would have to deal with an opponent switch on 9 days and fighting a guy who has been fighting at MW not LHW.

Side note, Machida is going to have more fans than he ever had come the Toronto fight.

I would agree with you, were it not for the fact that Jones could have saved this whole card if he took the fight. Now no one gets to fight. The fans lose, the fighters lose, everyone loses except for Jones.

Chael didnt earn it, but Jones could have gained fans by taking this fight imo.

UFC still could have tried other things and not have Jones be the deciding factor. Making it a free card somehow. Or moving Flyweight title up.

Jones could have made fans, but he's got other concerns than making fans. I mean, it's one week to prepare for a whole new fight, that's not smart. Maybe if he didn't have the belt and the risk of losing it. Assuming it would be a 5 round title fight or maybe it would have been only 3.

Coward your the champ youve had a full training camp why wouldnt he take a fight against sonnen who hasnt trained at all hes taking the fight on 8 days notice and hes also making his debut at 205 why wouldnt he take the fight? the only reason I can think of is he wants another big payday imo he lost more fans doing this. and he wants to be the best in the world.

I don't know many other champs that might take a fight on 8 days notice. I couldn't see GSP doing it.

What's really disappointing is the attitude that goes into a decision like this - not whether he's scared or anything silly like that. I suppose he doesn't believe what many of us think is apparent - that Dana will take care of him as a "team player" even if he were to lose a fill-in fight with Sonnen. He bombs the event, just because he doesn't want to risk having a loss to Chael? That's a real shame.

I respectfully disagree because Jones was already training.....for a wrestler....who trains at team quest. Its not like this fight was going to be a drastically different opponent. Chael was the one who was actually taking a fight on 8 days notice.

I'm generally not one to rip on fighters, especially champions, but Jones not taking this fight definitely was not a very smart business decision in any way. He has had difficulty winning fans, and this move hurt his reputation even further.

With his recent Nike contract he may be worried about looking bad, but the way White through him under the bus made him look worse than had he fought and lost.

Additionally, it's never good business to piss off your boss and the company you work for.

At the same time, the way Dana reacted, while highly entertaining he said a lot of things that he probably shouldn't have; then again that's nothing new for White!

There still has to be some difficulties with an opponent change on a weeks notice. Well Chael would try and grapple and Hendo was going to more likely stand.

I might have to stay off here til this crap blows over.

Cowardly seeming move by Jones.

Not sure why he did it. Must have felt he wasn't prepared. Fair enough. I guess he feels it was a smart business move.

So I'm saying both rather than one or another.
This move was cowardly and a smart business decision?

We'll see, I guess.

Maybe someone can fight Sonnen on 8 days notice for your main event.

Tim Sylvia is probably available.
