Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will officially move down to featherweight for his next fight in the Octagon.

According to a report from UFC Tonight on Tuesday, Edgar has decided to drop down to 145lbs and hopes to fight in December although no decision has been made as of yet who or when he will make his featherweight debut.

Edgar vs Mendes, if he gets past Mendes, let Aldo kick him to death.

Good and bad. He was still a force at 155, and arguably won the fight against Bendo. Now he has to possibly deal with Aldo. If nothing else, it stirs things up a bit in each division.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

Awesome news! Especially considering Aldo's challenge recently that he will send Edgar packing back to lightweight or down further to bantamweight and KZ's words about wanting Edgar to show everybody that he can beat him, there is a definite stock of interesting fights for Frankie.

Hopefully the UFC gives Edgar a good fight. Ricardo Lamas sounds about right.

There goes his cardio and speed edge......he was fine @ 55 - - - I guess he can thank the judges for the move down.

Interesting. Do you think his speed will look normal at 145?

He will still be one of the fastest fighters in his new division. Outside of Aldo, I find it difficult to name a top ten featherweight that can match The Answer in that dynamic.

Every extra pound counts - - - before at 155, Frankie's idea of weight cutting was dropping a deuce two hours before weigh in, he had no worries about gassing because he was cutting 5-6 pounds, basically, of water....it will be a different monster dropping a weight class.

I wish him success at 145, I hope he can get more finishes because when it goes to the judges in his case, he gets worked (except in the first Bendo fight).

He probably gets the Kenny Florian treatment. 1 fight at new weight and title shot.

Which is crap.

3 fights and then I would give him a title shot there if he won those against good opponents.

I like the move for Edgar. He was always a small LW that had to deal with stronger guys but he would win which actually shows how good he is. He's been taking a lot of punishment early in his fights and had to battle his way back. Not saying that what's gonna be happening at featherweight but it will be a lot closer size wise. Edgar may even have the strength advantage having fought those bigger guys

His speed wasn't his biggest asset at LW. It was his footwork, which will still be an advantage at FW. Not to mention his strength. He was able to hang with Maynard and Bendo who are both huge LWs.

Frankie will be just fine.

well with aldo taking about moving to LW he might have to only face aldo once then can fight for the title again, assuming frankie loses to aldo n then aldo moves up

Yall be tripping, Frankie will own 145. Jose has yet to face top notch former champ such as Edgar. Lil ol Frankie is gonna clean out 145 and take the belt.

FUCK yeah!

Edgar is one of my favourites. I like the move for the sheer fact that this opens up a bunch of interesting match ups for him. I want to see how he fights at 145 too tbh.
