UFC Vice President of Community Relations Reed Harris and former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin were among a small group of UFC officials on hand for Tuesday's groundbreaking ceremony for the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada.

The ceremony served as the official start of construction of a new center for the non-profit organization.

The UFC's parent company, Zuffa, LLC, is an initial donor for the project. Other benefactors include Las Vegas-based companies Boyd Gaming, Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts International, Station Casinos and Wynn Las Vegas.

i gotta wonder if this is the ufc's way of trying to make the sport look better. i got nothing against it, im just wondering if there is ulterior motives.

Probably. Let us see if Forrest Griffin, the UFC ambassador, made a customary gaffe.

"It's always nice to be involved in any project that's helping to make Las Vegas better," Griffin said. "This is an impressive organization doing something worthwhile in a community that is both expanding and rebuilding. It's always nice to see the UFC back the local community."

Considering Forrest Griffin's penchant for a faux pas, that seems pretty scripted to me.

I have no problem with businesses and organizations like Zuffa doing something worthwhile like this, even if it just for good PR.

I like this move completely, regardless of total PR or not. The UFC is not at the point of the NFL or NBA when their employees can go out and rape, shoot, or beat people (allegedly) yet still be considered 'family friendly', so a nice gesture like this can go a long way for the company and for the sport. It also shows a progressive and accepting view of their fellow humans, as opposed to a bigoted view that detractors like to brand on the UFC.

Yep it's disgusting what guy's in the NFL and NBA get away with and no one seems to care all that much. And of course it's a PR move, things like this always are but who cares if the end result is a positive.
