According to the Hanford Sentinel:
Mendes, 27, allegedly sucker punched a patron in the face and took off running out the back door. Officials say they have not been able to locate him.
[After breaking up a different fight] authorities recognized Mendes. He appeared to be intoxicated and began cursing at the deputies and officers, authorities said. They asked him to leave. Instead, he went back inside and struck one man who "never even saw him coming," Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said.
Mendes then fled the scene. The officers on duty pursued but were unable to apprehend him. The authorities are saying they will issue a warrant for his arrest if Mendes does not speak with them by Monday. The Assistant Sheriff informed that the District Attorney will decide whether or not a charge of assault with a deadly weapon will be necessary given Mendes's MMA training.

Goodbye UFC contract, Uncle Dana takes a dim view of shenanigans like that. Not the public image the UFC wants to portray.

Why would he need to sucker punch him? I think he would do just fine in a standard bar fight. This seems odd to me.

This doesn't seem like something Mendes would do, but the person on camera is often not the same person off camera. Well, good news for Faber; he can jump back up to featherweight and get an instant title shot.

Doesnt really seem like something Mendes would do. But people make terrible mistakes. Im guessing this will not only land him in some big trouble with the law, but also with the UFC. He could have just threw it all away, and coming off a nice win. Big mistake by him.

If it turns out to be true, I predict leniency by Dana.

That's not an excuse. Assault with a deadly weapon is what happened.

don't see why this would be deal sealer. guys get in trouble, jon jones just went through a dwi, chael laundered money, and I'm sure there is more. if you are willing to excuse those guys because of they are big draws then just get a big fan base and you are set. plus no formal charges have been filed and he just wanted for questioning. remember the whole innocent till proven guilty thing

It's far different when the thing you get in trouble for is assault. Yeah, obviously no one's getting cut for a rumour, but if he actually gets charged with assaulting someone in a bar, I really doubt that Dana would stand behind him.

Seeing as how Mendes is a big name in his weight class I also expect leniency.
if it were anyone other then him and the champ I think they would be cut.
I'm going to reiterate my point about him being a big name. Not the biggest. But definitely not an unknown. That will save him

I don't believe the Sheriffs can charge him with using a deadly weapon because of his training.. That is an old myth that apparently that department hasn't been informed of yet. Cops aren't lawyers though. They don't know all of the laws.

Lol, that's is a totally bullshit reporting or misinformation.
Also Mendes isn't that big of a star, so I think he would be cut, he's just a big name in a division that is still developing.
