A one-year retirement was just about enough for light heavyweight Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, who has opted to resume his fighting career and will compete next at UFC 152 in Toronto on Sept. 22.

Hamill will meet UFC newcomer Roger Hollett. UFC president Dana White confirmed the move and said the fighters have verbally agreed to fight each other.

Dude, lay off him. That wasn't an insult. He has a deaf dog, he named it Hamill...I think thats tight. First of all he's kind enough to take in a deaf animal...most get put to sleep...he had to name it something so he named it after A very inspirational deaf man, Matt Hamill. Its like a tribute, not an insult.

Calm down.

...or explain to me why you think what he said is insulting?

A MMA fighter's retirement announcement is about as good as a politician's word. Worthless.

It is totally insulting and it is obvious there is no point telling you why it is. Also...most deaf animals get put to sleep? Not at all. I have actually never heard of a deaf animal being put to sleep for being deaf. Wow.

I think naming a pet after someone is a high order compliment, regardless of the reasons. You're going to be using that name a lot, so it's obvious the person you name them after is someone you like/respect.

As for Hamill's return -I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing, but 152 is looking like a great card.

Pretty sweet to see Hamill back, I thought he left early. He had decent potential in the sport and this seems like a good comeback match up.

Woah, how is naming a dog after a famous athlete insulting? Why would either of you just assume that calling his dog Hamill is a negative thing?

You're right.

Hamill returning is pretty sweet. It's even better that he's doing it in Toronto

Hollett is a nice pick up but I think Hamill gets the job done.

my uncle used to have a 3 legged dog he named Abbott, after Jim Abbott (MLB pitcher with one hand). no one, including the dog, ever found it to be insulting
