UFC 148 can now officially be called the largest live gate in promotional history in the United States after figures released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

According to the figures, UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen 2 raked in a whopping $6,901,655 live gate, surpassing UFC 66 by nearly $1.6 million dollars.

That live gate totaled out at $5,397,300 for the card featuring the rematch between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz in Las Vegas.

UFC 148 now becomes the promotion’s biggest live gate ever in the United States with UFC 100 coming in at third place.

The commission numbers also state that the event sold 13,606 tickets with 64 tickets remaining unsold and a total of 1,498 tickets comped, which equates to the tickets being given away.

As well as it should have. It was a rematch between Silva and the only guy that came close to beating him in 6+ years and ever in the UFC.

I agree that it should have with who was fighting but raising the ticket price has a ton to do with the final $ total

And I could only imagine it doing better if the original card was to hold up
with Cruz vs Faber III and Rich Franklin vs Cung Le.

I believe another reason why people will always be willing to pay more is if they think there is some "bad blood" between fighters. With Sonnen being the best trash talker in the game, and Silva firing back at him, the dollars rolled in. There was also the possibility that Anderson would finally lose, which he didn't, but that was something people haven't been used too seeing.
