Jon Jones has had an undeniably impressive run through his young MMA career. Ten men have been unable to solve the Jon Jones puzzle in the UFC, but at UFC 151 on Sept. 1, Dan Henderson hopes to change all that.

Henderson is best known for his crucifying knockout power and trademark overhand right. The move have knocked many men out cold and while the California native will undoubtedly be throwing the punch against Jones, he says landing the ‘H-Bomb’ isn’t his sole focus for the fight. In fact, Henderson went into detail with a group of reports at the recent UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas and explained how his focus gainst Jones at UFC 151 is to win every round, not headhunt with the ‘H-Bomb’.

“My focus is to win every round, not to land the ‘H-Bomb’. But if I hit him pretty good along the way hopefully it knocks him out. I do need to make sure I get inside his length and stay in his face and make him fight me. That’s going to be nice to be able to knock him out, but I never depend on it. It’s something that, you know, I try to make sure I win every round and control the fight whether I have to take it to the ground, stay on my feet, on the outside or in the clinch. I’m sure I won’t be on the outside a whole lot with Jon Jones, I’ll feel like one of those little kids, you push your hand out there and you can’t hit him. So I’ve just got make sure I get past his reach.”

“A lot of people that think (he’s unbeatable) have never fought before. They see what he’s done from the outside and, you know he’s done well with his style but I fee like he’s never fought anyone like me and with my style it really, you know, I think goes well for me against someone like him. He’s still young and unorthodox, I think that’s his biggest asset and, you know but he’s young and sloppy a bit. He still has a lot to learn in this sport technically and those are the things, I just need to make sure I stay in position and not catch some goofy elbow.”

Henderson can't ignore how fast Jones is.

Hope he finds success

Henderson gave us a match for the ages against Shogun, but I fear he's going to get embarrassed in there with Jones.

Your secret is safe with us Hendo. Great idea to make Jones think you are planning to outpoint him. H-bomb for the win.

"Win every round" hard to argue with that game plan.

Hard to see him doing it, but I'd love it. Unfortunately I feel like he's going to eat a lot of elbows

Good call! I call BS here too. That gameplan would require Hendo to use his wrestling and that just isnt an option lol

If anyone could get on the inside against Jones I would say it was Hendo. He knows that he will take a lot of punishment to get in there but he will get there eventually!

The fact that Hendo's chin has continued to hold up at 41 (will be 42 at the fight) is a miracle. This guy has fought some absolute monsters in his time, and though the RNC from Anderson Silva was set up by strikes, he's never been stopped purely by strikes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Shogun fight took a little bit out of him, because while most of Shogun's strikes were fatigued arm punches, he still took a lot of shots and was exhausted when most of them landed.

Hendo does have a great chin, and as long as he's not retired, he is able to close the distance decently. What Henderson also brings is a very strong clinch, one that Randy Couture mentioned specifically when asked about Hendo's strengths.

When we look at Bones' past fights, we see a guy who can close distance (Rashad), a guy with a good clinch (Rampage, who actually shut down Hendo), and a guy with both (Machida). None of them were able to land more than a strike here and there.

I think Bones' overall game - along with his surprising strength and leverage in the clinch - will win him the fight, but now's the best time for Hendo to give it one more shot. He's dangerous enough to be an intriguing question, and I see few (if any) current, proven contenders at 205 who can offer that.

technically speaking, if Hendo won by a 1st round H Bomb wouldn't he have won every round?
