Heading out of the Rose Quarter toward I-84 east, there's a billboard advertising an MMA event on Saturday.

It's not for "Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy," which occupies the 20,000-seat arena that night and features two world title fights of world-class caliber.

Instead, it's for Caged Combat 6, which takes place about 40 miles down the road at Spirit Mountain Casino in a 1,750-seat event center. There are four billboards around Portland advertising the event. Two days from the show, 1,500 tickets have been sold, according to its promoter, Charles Grijalva.

I know exactly what there talking about. There is this local Promotion doing a show the same day at Spirit Mountain Casino and it's getting more play on the local sports shows than Strikforce is. That's just wrong right there

I felt the same thing for the HW GP event in Dallas with Overeem vs Werdum. There was no local promotion of the event that I noticed other than the video billboard at the American Airlines Center where the event took place. I tried for two weeks to find out where the damn weigh-ins were supposed to be. I e-mailed Strikeforce, UFC, InsideMMA, and a number of MMA journalists/websites. I even had a friend tweet a couple of the fighters to see if they knew. JZ was the only one who replied, but he didn't even know. It wasn't until 2 days before the weigh-ins that I got a single reply from a journalist informing me that it was going to be outside of the arena (outside, early afternoon, in mid June, in Dallas.... sounds like great planning to me). I don't remember hearing a single ad on the radio. The only promos on TV that I saw were on Showtime. Now, this was a short time after Zuffa canned everybody at Strikeforce outside of Coker, so I've always felt like this was Zuffa's fault. It really doesn't make any sense to me. You would think that you would want all of your brands to be as profitable as possible, but I just get the impression that Zuffa doesn't want to be bothered. I can certainly understand the fighters' frustration. I thought it was pretty pathetic two years ago and it doesn't seem to have gotten any better. In fact, I think it may have gotten worse.

Not surprised at all. It's the same story for every Strikeforce event.

Maybe cause it's called Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Kennedy

I think a Fight Night: Leben vs Sinosic would draw more viewers
