When 2012 began, UFC middleweight Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) was considered a bright prospect with ample potential.

After dominating Mark Munoz in the headliner of Wednesday UFC on FUEL TV 4 event, "The All American" is now a bona fide contender, and he's certain if given the chance, he could take out the division's longtime kingpin, Anderson Silva.

"Anderson Silva has been through 15 guys," Weidman said at Wednesday's post-event press conference. "All those 15 guys tried to take him down, hold him down, tried to submit him. It's not going to be easy. Chael Sonnen is that good, but he was able to get him down in every fight and put him in that position. I'm going to follow that blueprint.

"I've got the length with Anderson Silva, so he's not going to be able to play on the outside much with me. If he comes in, my takedowns are pretty good. I'll take him down. I think, I really do believe, that I could submit him and finish him. I really think I can."

If they fought today, I'd still take Anderson. But Weidman is only going to get better, while Anderson can only get worse. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Weidman as MW champ some day.

The scariest thing to me is Weidman is 9-0. Imagine what this guys gonna be like with more UFC experience.

I say give him Belcher, Belfort, Bisping or even Franklin, should he win any of those fights, a win over one of those + Munoz, Maia, Sakara and Lawlor is a pretty solid case. Not saying he doesn't have one at the moment but I'd just like one more W to be sure

Weidman certainly has some holes in his stand up game and he has to get used to sprinting in like chael orr else silva will ko him on the feet. Otherwiise, yeah it certainly isnt out of the relm of possibility. He looked great last night and it's awesome how he actually goes for subs on top instead of being a cuddlebug. The crowd booing him was a travesty imo, what else do you want? He was working subs the whole time...

Anderson is running out of interesting opponents, I say set it up. Their both coming off wins at about the same time with little to no injuries

I think he's earned the shot but I can definitely see Lombard getting it depending on how he does on the 21st.

Why not have Lombard fight Weidman if he beats the barbarian, for a shot at Andy? It would be a bit of a layoff for Silva, but that doesn't seem to bother him. It would be a great test for Weidman.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

I'd be all for this except I wanna see him sooner rather than later. He took very little damage against Sonnen and should be ready for a fight real soon. I hate long layoffs for Champs

Weidman is showing great potential I just don't think he is ready for Anderson. Couple more fights may change that but right now I would take Anderson.

Chael is the number two guy in the division. I doubt i'd even pick weidman against him, let alone Anderson Silva.

Weidman/Chael would be a tough call. Chael's got experience, but that's a tough style match for him.

This.

I feel like people are heavily overhyping weidman.

Same thing happened when gonzaga KOd Mirko

Not saying the guy isn't good because he is. He dominated munoz but when I hear some of the PG saying munoz was the one overrated it contradicts everything that has already been said here

I actually think Weidman should fight Sonnen next. I think it would be a great fight. A no, i dont think weidman would stand a chance with Silva right now.
