Short notice worked well for Jamie Varner‘s return to the UFC, so why not try it twice?

The former WEC champion who stormed back into the UFC with a knockout victory over previously undefeated fighter Edson Barboza at UFC 146 will now take another short notice fight as he steps in to face Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4 on Aug 4.

UFC officials announced the new match-up on late Wednesday night.

No one could say Varner is getting any preferential treatment. Those are two tough fights to start his second run in the UFC. Definitely building goodwill with the UFC and Dana.

@ 155? He would climb up the ladder but thats the longest line in MMA. He would have to win at least 2 more fights before they start Title talk IMO

Of course, never said he would be at the doorstep for a title shot but he would be getting some good guys with back to back wins over guys near the top of the division, don't you think that puts him up there with guys like Guillard, Miller, Pettis if he beats Lauzon impressively?
