The betting line for the UFC 152 bout between Canadian welterweight uber-prospect Rory MacDonald and future Hall of Famer B.J. Penn opened on the weekend, and Rory was a healthy favorite at -288. Penn sat at +232. Other than a brief blip it basically sat like that until last night, when a bunch of money apparently came in on Penn and the line shifted accordingly. Here's how it looks at the moment:
B.J. Penn +192
Rory MacDonald -248

I never bet against the prodigy.

At 170 against people not named "Matthew" I always bet against him. Pretty good system too.

I chalk it up to a lack of faith.

This is a great fight, and I think BJ has a decent chance in this fight. BJ has some of the best boxing in MMA, and I would say the stand up is Rory's biggest weakness at the moment. Not to mention, you look up the phrase "take down defense" and you see BJ's picture right next to it. BJ is not Che Mills or Mike Pyle here.

If this fight were at 155, I'd take BJ with little afterthought.

BJ is coming back with the flame and passion of the Hilo kid we saw years ago, Rory better have some extra blood bags in the back to stock back up.

I don't see it happening at any weight class other than 155. And even then I don't know.

MacDonald will beat BJ any day of the week and twice on Sunday ..... BJ hasn't evolved like other top fighters have imo. I've always been a prodigy fan, but his time has come and gone and I don't think he will beat the Waterboy when they meet.

Id bet all day on those odds. Penn is a lock loss vs a young gun. He needs to move on to the senior circuit. He is done contending. If he wants to fight Hughes or a Gracie, bring it on. Let him faceold big names at higher weights because he is lazy enough to move up anyway. But fighting the young guns is out of his abilities now. He has lost a step and its over.
