British brawler Michael Bisping was on the cusp of finally receiving his long-desired chance to vie for an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title. All he had to do was defeat the one-man promotion machine who is Chael Sonnen at UFC on Fox 2: "Evans vs. Davis" earlier this year in Chicago, Illinois.
Unfortunately for "The Count," the judges didn't side with him and gave Sonnen the unanimous decision victory, setting up the most-anticipated rematch in the promotion's history between Sonnen and 185-pound kingpin Anderson Silva, which will headline UFC 148 on July 7, 2012, while Bisping is forced to pick up the pieces and start his climb back to the top after tumbling down the middleweight rankings.
Scheduled to face Tim Boetsch at UFC 149, Bisping was forced to withdraw due to injury (torn meniscus), slowing down his climb back to a number one contender's bout to get him closer to his coveted title shot.
However, according to the Brit, he shouldn't have to climb too much in order to get a shot at the title.
Appearing on today's (Jun., 11, 2012) episode of The MMA Hour, Bisping talks about who he wants to face when he returns from his injury as well as saying he will be "massively" disappointed if Hector Lombard receives a shot at the title after one just victory in the UFC.

Understandable that he'd be pissed.
But if the fans shouldn't have to wait around. Bisping needs another win to earn a shot.
If Hector wins, he ought to get the shot.

I'm not saying Lombard has, but Bisping has never beat a top 5 MW. Arguably neither has beat a top 10 MW. If Munoz can get past Weidman, he has a much stronger case than Bisping.

Anyone with a triangle choke will beat Chael

Amen! Hell, you could even make the argument he has never beaten a top 15 MW in the world. Bisping's placement on a lot of top ranking-sites has me scratching my head. Many lists have him in their top 5, with him having zero wins against anyone in their top 10. Yes, he looked decent against Sonnen, but IMO he still has not beaten anyone who'd garner him a spot in the top 5.

I agree that Munoz deserves the next shot if he beats Weidman, but I'm not quite sure about giving Lombard the title shot over Bisping. There is recent precedence of champions in other orgs getting a title shot after a single win in the UFC: Nick Diaz, Jake Shields, and Alistair Overeem, so this shouldn't be much of an issue. Bisping vs Silva will be a far better sell than Lombard vs Silva. It can be promoted much easier, Bisping is far more known, and more people will buy this PPV to see Bisping get KTFO (most likely). I dont think a win over Boetsch should give anyone a title shot, b/c imo he isn't a top 10 and was fortunate to beat Okami.

Bisping couldn't have earned a title shot with a win over Boetsch I don't think.
I mean a lot of things are playing into Lombard getting a title shot, not much contenders, Munoz has a fight, Bisping/Stann injuried, he has 25 fight win streak, former champ and the timing will work out if he wins, as there won't be anyone else at the moment.

How many fighters lose a `winner gets a title shot` fight and have their next fight be a `winner gets a title shot` fight? That's likely what will happen if Lombard wins and gets a title shot and Bisping faces the winner of Munoz/Weidman for next shot.

Agreed, I just don't understand how Bisping stays in contention. He loses every big fight we has, beats someone not in the top 10 and then suddenly he's back one fight away from a title shot.
