Chad Mendes (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) knows things could have been different, and that's what bothers him the most when he thinks back to January 14.

Mendes, fighting for the UFC featherweight title in just his third octagon appearance and 12th professional fight, was handling the early storm from champ Jose Aldo, gaining confidence while fighting the Brazilian champ on his native soil.

But with one tick left in the opening round, things went terribly wrong. Now Mendes wants a chance to prove he's better than he showed at UFC 142.

Joe Silva feels the same, he gave you Cody McKenzie who has no takedown defense to speak of, Chad.

division thin at 145? Hioki, Lamas, TKZ, Koch, Siver, Oliveira, Poirier, and Pearson all right near the top of the heap along with Mendes. I wouldn't mind seeing a second fight with Aldo, but not anytime soon with all the contenders right now.

I just think Aldo is a bad matchup for Mendes

I don't think 145 is thin.

No, I don't think the division is thin either. And Mendes, you got KTFO. You don't get a second chance when you get KTFO. Unless you are Cain V

I pretty much agree with everyone so far. Mendes would need at the very least - 3 consecutive wins for another shot.

Against top level competition

No disrespect to Cody Mckenzie but I dont feel like a win over him will do much for Mendes

Probably on purpose. I doubt Mendes bothers taking that fight to the mat.

Mendes lost without mounting any top control. He lost in spectacular fashion after doing nothing for five minutes. I will take a pass on Mendes vs. Aldo II.
