Chad Griggs (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is making the move to light heavyweight, and "Mr. Wonderful" will be there to meet him.

UFC officials today announced that the former heavyweight is dropping to 205 pounds, where he'll meet Phil Davis (9-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX 4.

UFC on FOX 4 takes place Aug. 4 at Los Angeles' Staples Center, and the main card airs on FOX.

Today's release did not detail where the Davis vs. Griggs fight will fit on the evening's fight card.

Has there ever been a -1000 or more favourite on the Playground? This might set the record.

Well I'll be the first here to say this fight makes 0 sense.

This match up is definitely a head scratcher.

Davis, who last fought for a #1 contender, is now facing Griggs who has never fought at LHW and wasn't even near being ranked as a HW. Not much to gain for Davis, besides getting a W in the win column.

Griggs should be fighting someone like Hippo Perosh.

I don't klnow if he gains nothing. Phil has major holes in his game and this is going to provide cage time as well as a chance to use his skills in live action with a fighter of a lesser caliber. Id like to see him work his stand up a bit in this match. Thats the problem with alot of these athletic freaks they get to the UFC with such a small tool kit and get by on their athletic gifts until they meet someone thats not going to work on. I like the fight as long as he uses it to improve.

I guess the UFC feels Davis needs some more fine tuning before he's ready to be a contender. I just hope it doesn't make the main card, because I'nm not at all interested in watching a one sided wrestling clinic. Even stranger to me is Stann and Lombard being the headliner over Machida vs Bader. I would think Machida and Bader are bigger names,. Stann obviously has some great marketability as well, but I don't think his name is o0ut there as much as the other two.

So much for Joe SIlva's supposedly great matchmaking abilities. This match up is just downright stupid. I hope somehow that Griggs can KO Davis and throw a monkey wrench into the works. Joe Silva needs to be admonished for this match up.

Woah there. Look at the 1000s of other match ups he's made then rethink that comment.

Even the best make poor decisions every once in a while. I'm going to assume this wasn't his first choice for Davis either.

Griggs does have the power, but he is getting up there in age.

I was extremely confused on that one as well, but decided that Stann/Lombard probably has title implications, while Machida/Bader does not.
