Although he won't fight UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, Urijah Faber will get to fight for a title.

A replacement opponent hasn't been determined, but UFC president Dana White today said Faber will fight the UFC's interim bantamweight title in July at UFC 148.

Cruz bowed out of the fight earlier this week after tearing his ACL, though White said he'll remain a coach on "The Ultimate Fighter: Live."

UFC 148 takes place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view, and FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims. Cruz (19-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Faber (26-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) III originally was expected to take the headlining slot of the event, but logistical issues forced the move of Anderson Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) vs. Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) II from UFC 147 to the UFC 148 main-event slot.

Mayday seems to be the most logical opponent seeing as he is healthy and only lasted like 3 minutes before KO'ing Torres. Barao is locked in with Menjivar

Barao is the most deserving IMO. Besides, it never hurts for a young gun like Mayday to gain more cage time.

I thought it had to be Barao...Mayday even said after his fight with Soto that he wants to take his time, so I dont think they will put him in there yet.

I wouldn't say Barao is "locked in w/ Menjivar" because White did say that Mir WOULD fight Cain, and ended up pulling him. It will most likely be Barao or Mayday. I highly doubt they'd throw Pickett in there, although there really isn't anyone else. Faber just beat Bowles so he's out.

Barao
Mayday

Maybe Ivan, though he would be my last option. I had him losing his fight against Nick Pace.

Or hell, throw Roland in there.

Whoever Faber fights, I hope Faber gets knocked out. It's not that I don't like the guy, it's that he doesn't (imo) deserve a title fight of any kind. Nor has he in a while. If Faber put together a damn 3 fight win streak I would shut my mouth.

Is Faber REALLY that marketable? Does he really have that big a fan base? Or do most people just know him from his commercials with Danny McBride? I can't figure it out.

I've only been watching UFC for a year but I can see why they are so intent on having Faber get the belt.

He is very marketable. The California golden boy thing with a big, fun, entertaining yet laid-back personality, his coaching style and PR abilities in front of the camera... he's a good "face of the sport" type to represent, from an organization point of view anyway.

As for who he faces next, I'm hoping for Mayday.

Honestly I really didn't wanna see a third match of Cruz vs faber. Barao or mayday would be more exciting for me

Tired of all the rematches I suppose

Faber is marketable and has a huge casual fanbase. Also, his record is pretty good with losses only to Cruz, Aldo, Brown (2) and Griffin. If I'm not mistaken, in his second fight with Brown, he fought with two broken hands and fought the majority of the fight with standing elbows as a result. Faber earned a lot my respect after that fight. Also, he is in a pretty shallow weight class. People can only come up with three other challengers.

While I don't want to see the Cruz/Faber rematch so soon.

But if Faber wins this other fight, I would feel a little better about his earning a shot, by having to get another win. Instead of just having the 1 win against Bowles and then the title shot.
