July's UFC 149 event has a fairly significant change: Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1 MMA, 1-0 SF) has replaced injured Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC) and now meets Thiago Alves (19-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC).
Officials from the UFC's Brazilian office today announced the change.
UFC 149 takes place July 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo headlines in a five-round title fight with challenger Erik Koch.
UFC 149's main card, including Bahadurzada vs. Alves, airs on pay-per-view. FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims.
The nature of Akiyama's injury wasn't disclosed.

This is 100 times better than the Akiyama match up.

Should be really interesting...I like the matchup--I mean at least Yoshihiro isn't being served up as fodder for the moment.
Siyar has some big holes in his ground game though, so I wouldn't be shocked if this one goes to the ground early.

I picked against Siyar when I know I shouldn't have and I am thinking Alves wins the striking war. But I wouldn't be surprised if Siyar went in with a wrestling mind set and tried to beat Thiago that way. Not saying he will and that he would be successful if he did.
But back to my main point I am gonna have to pick Siyar after I picked against him last time.

Siyar is one of my favorites. Love this fight. The universe just helped Joe Silva do his job something fierce.
