Well that didn't take long.

With the ink barely dry on his new UFC deal, former Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard (31-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) made his intentions perfectly clear.

"I want to be UFC middleweight champion, and I want to fight Anderson Silva to do it," Lombard stated. "I have such respect for him as a fighter. It would be an honor and a dream come true to test my skills against his."

Beat a contender and we'll see.

Really only seen power from him, ground haven't seen, grappling haven't seen and I have seen him gas with all that muscle.

Exactly my thoughts.

He needs two big wins before he starts calling for Silva imo. Brian Stann seems like the logical first fight for him.

I do think he has power to take anyone out, but others will know that and will try to work on his weaknesses

Brian stann looks like a good 1st fight but I say throw him to the wolves, rich franklin or vitor. even though both guys are locked up it would still be nice or lisping, but stann is the only free guy right now for a good test at 185. but lets see him out his ass where his mouth is. or scratch cane from the 150 n put him in vs okami at UFC 150. He has talked a lot so I wanna see what he has right from the get go

I like Lombard, but it's laughable to think he could hit Silva with his t-rex reach.

Two things. Number one....Lombard is going to have to wait in line....and by the time he gets there Silva might not be champ. Number two....I think Lombard should have to work his way up the ladder before he gets a shot at the title. I don't care how many people he has beat in a row....most of those wins were against tomato cans, lower tier and middle tier guys....no real good fighters. I might be wrong but I don't think Hector is going to be too stellar in the UFC. The UFC is the real proving ground and very few "good" non UFC guys have made the transition and stayed "good". The UFC weeds them out quick. No matter what....we will soon find out.

The thing I see Hector has going for him to get a fast tracked title shot is that he can get the early HL reel KO against anyone. If he gets a guy like Bisping or Munoz that's near the top and KO's him quickly/viciously then he has instant hype behind him and he's an easy sell for the UFC before you even get into his backstory and win streak. That stuff just makes him more intriguing to the average fan. Granted he has to land on a top level guy for this to play out and that's easier said than done, but don't hate his chances against anyone that will stand with him for any length of time, excluding Anderson. He's going to be fun to watch, win or lose though.
