World-ranked middleweight Hector Lombard will leave his longtime home at Bellator and sign with the UFC.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney confirmed the move to MMA Fighting on Tuesday afternoon.

Bellator had a right to match the UFC's offer to the man who was their reigning middleweight champion, but Rebney cited differences between the two organizational models as the obstacle that could not be overcome when it came to matching the UFC's deal.

"We have a business model where we make decisions based on analyzing data," he said. "Since the first day we came into being, we made decisions based on real models, not hypotheticals. The UFC model is largely based on pay-per-view, and the offer they made to Hector is going to be monetized via pay-per-view. While pay-per-view could play a role in our future, today it doesn't. So, we did our due diligence to review the UFC contract, analyze it in terms of charging our audience to see Hector vs. putting him on free TV, and we decided to allow the UFC to sign Hector, where I am extremely confident he will win the UFC middleweight title on pay-per-view."

Awesome. Let's see him fight Belfort after he beats Wandy.

Yesssssssss. Who's he get first? I'd love to see him fight Brian Stann. I hate to sound like a stereotypical Southerner here.. but U! S! A!!! U! S! A!!! U! S! A!!!

The UFC would be fools to not pit him against a striker. If someone grapplefucks him, his value in the division is dwindled significantly. With lots of other middleweights booked, it would be a great test for Lombard to see how he does against one of the staunchest strikers in that division.

I figure there are two ways Zuffa will handle Lombard : One, try to build him up as a marketable entity. Use the former champ business, point to the record, win streak, etc. Or two, just give him the toughest fights right out of the gate. Try to get him crushed and have DW throw salt all over Bellator's game.

Either way works for me. I would pick Weidman over Lombard if that match got made. I am actually struggling to think of a winnable fight for him at 185 in the UFC. I guess that shows how much I care about Middleweight.

I like that one too.. I tried to think of a good match-up a little further down the totem pole from Stann, but couldn't think of one. Giving Stann to Lombard out of the gate would be great to see, but maybe a little too quick as far as trying to move Lombard up the ladder.

This.

Reminds me of UFC signing Jorge Santigo. Nothing easy.

They shouldn't give him an easy fights, that's all he's been getting in Bellator. Hard fights right out of the gate.

Don't see Wandy fighting again after Belfort fight, if he loses.

I would scrap Cung Le/Franklin and put Cung vs Lombard

A very technical accurate striker vs. a rampaging striker. Kind of like Cung/Wand if Wand was closer to his prime. I really can't wait to see how Hector compares to the UFC middleweights.

Many matches I would like to see him in. Franklin, Okami , Weidman , Stann the list goes on.

Looks like it's gonna be Stann. Thanks Lorenzo!
