It was a valiant effort, Mark Hunt fans. But the rally will come up short.

Following a massive online campaign to get Mark Hunt under consideration for a potential title fight – complete with its own #RallyforMarkHunt hashtag – UFC president Dana White squelched the possibility.

If Alistair Overeem isn't cleared to fight heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146, Hunt won't be the replacement.

"They can keep rallying," White said on Saturday following UFC on FUEL TV 2 at Stockholm's Ericsson Globe Arena. "That ain't going to happen.

"Listen, Mark Hunt is going to have to fight one of the top guys. You don't just jump right into the title shot."

As much as i wanna see Hunt in there fighting JDS, i agree with DW. Hunt just hasn't set himself up to fight the Champ, not with Mir and Cain having fought the guys they've fought and won the fights they've won. i know neither of them are gonna move in to fight JDS but they were just guys i feel are ahead of Hunt in terms of position

I for one am not surprised at all.

Dana has the same point I've had too.

Sucks though cause I'm a huge fan

Nobody really deserves the title shot yet...Hunt has only beat 1 significant name in the UFC in Kongo(who doesn't have a chin anymore) and the Velasquez/Murr fight was for the #1 contender...Murr was gonna get mauled by Cain so I don't want Murr getting his 18th title shot by default...I'd say if Ubereem doesn't get the shot then take JDS off the 146 card and move him to the Toronto card in September against the Barnett/Cormier winner.

Is that why Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar got the title shot right away?? Why would Dana please the fans?

Oh Uncle Dana, Don't lie, we know you just see $$$$$, that's why Brocky gets a title shot going 1-1 for you. So yeah, you can just jump into a title shot. Or when I was discussing the whole Mark Hunt title shot thing with BlueSkiesBurn, when we were talking about people getting title shots, that really didn't deserve one, he found Justin Eilers, who received a title shot against AA after losing to Paul Buentello. So yeah, once again you can just jump into title shot.

So as long as people receive title shots like that, I will still #RallyForMarkHunt whether it's falling on deaf ears or not. Like I said before, whether Hunt gets a title shot or not, this whole thing benefits him in the long run. His name is getting out there even more, so now the casual fans are getting to know who he is.

But that's just being a Mark Hunt fanboy I guess, according to some people

also if cain beats mir, that means won just one fight before getting a shot at the belt, not to mention his lover boy faber getting shots left and right.... yes i do agree with is too early to give hunt a shot but lets not kid our selves, others have gotten one for way less than what hunt has done. personally i think guys should have to fight a lot more to get title fights but sometimes it just doesn't go that way, it is become harder and harder to keep winning streaks in mms now with the influx of talent rises.

The Voice of Reason.....

If you recently lost to Sean McCorkle, you DO NOT deserve mention for a title shot.

I could have sworn Lesnar jumped right in.

White can keep rallying for a heavyweight division that makes ranking sense after they waste an easy patch for an entertaining title fight and throw Mir in there.

-Couture wasnt deserving but it made sense
-Brock was nowhere near deserving but mr White saw buy rates on that one, an it made sense
-Mir wasnt deserving at the time but there was noone else and it made sense

A non Hunt scenario doesnt make sense.... Mir Valasquez is huge on its own.
