The rise of Pat Curran has been something just about everybody has been able to watch ever since the young fighter made his first appearance on the TapouT reality show a few years back.

Since that time, Curran pulled off probably the biggest upset, at the time, in Bellator Fighting Championships history when he defeated former UFC contender Roger Huerta. He then made it all the way to a shot against then Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and despite going into the fight as an over inflated featherweight still managed to go five rounds with one of the top 155-pound fighters in the world.

That’s when Curran started to hit his stride.

he hasn't done enough to be #2 yet. IMO Hioki and Mendes are #2-3 (in either order) and Curran is either #4 or 5

I personally dont think Curran is even in the top 5 in the featherweight division. I just dont see ranking him that high making any sense!!

I think the Argument is hinged upon the fact that he bested Sandro, in a fight he was losing.

A top ten ranking is more than deserving, and a top 5 is quite arguable, but #2 is a bit of a stretch.

With that said however, I don't think Mendes is a #2-#3 guy either.

Didnt he just move to FW to? So he has 4 wins there.

I might have him top 10, but hard to compare against UFC guys when he isnt facing them.

He's impressed me though.

I swear there was an article a month or two ago saying "Is Pat Curran the #2 Lightweight in the world?".

Is this from the same person?

I remember a thread started on here after he beat warren to death. I think I know who posted it but i'm not sure of that. I'm pretty sure they train with Curran. I could be off though.

I was the one who posted the thread you guys are talking about.

The article said "Is Pat Curran the best P4P fighter outside the UFC."

I think thats an easier argument to make than "number 2 FW in the world."

Excluding all guys in the UFC makes him easy to rank high. I think he's the number 2 P4P non-UFC fighter (aftend Gil.)

But I agree that he's at best #5 at FW if you count the UFC guys.

PS.

This is coming from someone who trains with and knows Pat personally. If I don't think he's #2, no one should (I'm biased.)

I've got him at #5 right now. And that's probably a little too generous. Either way he's a solid prospect that I would love to see test his skills in the UFC. Curran vs. Koch or Hominick would be all kinds of awesome.
