Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is putting together a featherweight contest pitting Ross Pearson vs. Cub Swanson for the upcoming UFC on FX 4 network television event, tentatively scheduled for the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, on Sat., June 12, 2012.

ESPN.co.uk brought word of the pending match-up earlier today.

After dropping two out of three fights at lightweight, Pearson (13-5) shed some skin and tried his luck in the 145-pound division. His first test against Raphael Assuncao proved to be a difficult one, but one he passed via gritty unanimous decision win at UFC 141 last December.

Swanson (16-5) also got back into the win column after losing two of three. The Greg Jackson disciple and former WEC combatant polished off George Roop at the UFC on FOX 2 event earlier this year. Can he string together two consecutive wins for the first time in almost four years?

We all have heard the term 'Anything can happen in a fight' but IMO, on paper, this fight is a given. Pearson should outclass Swanson rather easily in this fight.

This is not a good match up by any means and I believe it's the ufc's way of handing the discharge papers to Swanson.

Swanson just smoked Roop not sure if I agree with you on this one. Even with a loss to Ross I think Swanson is safe.

Gotta disagree KFM, on paper this one looks pretty damn close to me. Cub really only has lost to top fighters recently, and even gets a pass on the Pulver fight because it was before the bottom completely fell out on Jens. Dude brings it when he gets into the cage, and I'm surprised he hasn't won 2 fights in a row in so damn long. He has had a tough bunch of opponents over the past few years though. Pearson is gritty, and tough, and likes to throw down which makes me think that this one should be fireworks. Not sure who I'll be picking yet, might have to get my coin flippin shoes on.

Swanson will probably be safe even with a loss to Pearson but I definitely think another loss will initiate the paper work. I just don't see him lasting very long in the ufc - considering the growing talent pool.

You could be right but I feel Pearson is just a much better fighter. IMO, Pearson has much better punches, better movement and better overall fight mentality.

Gotta respectfully disagree. Pearson was outclassed in the stand up by Cole Miller, and Swanson is on a whole different level when it comes to striking. It depends on if Pearson sticks to the gameplan. If he can't keep his striking clean and crisp he could win, but if he throws technique out the window Swanson has the power to end it.

Counted Swanson out in his last fight and I will not make the same mistake here! I see him getting TKO here for sure
