According to a report on FUEL TV's UFC Tonight Tuesday, former UFC welterweight title challenger Jake Shields is moving up to the 185-pound division later this year.

The Californian is no stranger to middleweight though, having won a Strikeforce title there, and among his victims in the division are Dan Henderson Jason Miller, and Robbie Lawler. Shields is coming off a UFC 144 win over Yoshihiro Akiyama in February.

Interesting move, and I understand his motives as he has had success there. I don't see any greater successes for him at MW than he had at WW though.....I guess time will tell.

He's much better at Middleweight. I think this is an excellent move on his part.

he might be a little small for that division, but at least his gas tank won't look like shit. I would love to see Shields fight Jason MacDonald as his first fight back

I agree. He didn't handle the weight cut well and he always looked drawn out at WW.

You could tell by looking at the speed of his shots.

I think he'll do better at MW.

He's moving up to avoid Maia at WW

At last. If he puts the weight back on, he'll be a beast again!

Best threat to Anderson imo. His wrestling is really efficient like Chaels but he has beast bjj. Hopefully he tries a little harder than Okami to actually use takedowns.

He's not gonna get subbed off his back like Chael.

Eh, i think Shields takedowns are garbage against fighters with half-decent movement or a better than average sprawl.

He's good at what he does, but i wouldn't give him a chance in hell at even getting close to Anderson in the cage

I like the move but it's tough to tell where he stands in the division. I don't think he'll have to much trouble if he sharpens up his stand up

not surprising, i knew he would have problems at WW, plus i think its probably difficult for him to keep his weight low enough for WW
