Less than a mile away from a presser put on by the UFC's well-oiled publicity machine, a grassroots organization continues to advocate for MMA in the Big Apple.

On Tuesday, the Coalition to Legalize Mixed Martial Arts in New York holds a rally in front of governor Andrew Cuomo's Manhattan office to raise awareness and voice support for bringing MMA to the Empire State.

Additionally, an MMA documentary film festival is scheduled to take place at The Theater Lobby at Madison Square Garden.

The governor's office is located at 633 Third Avenue in New York City. The two-hour rally begins at 11:30 a.m. ET, and the film festival begins at 4 p.m.

Scheduled to appear at the rally is Michael Benjamin, a former New York State assemblyman who co-sponsored a 2011 MMA bill that's been resubmitted for the 2012 legislative session. The bill currently sits in the assembly's Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development committee.

I'm kind of over this topic. MMA is doing just fine without having New York on board. If the state government can't get permission from the union(s) to hold MMA shows then let's just move on, fugetaboutit.

UFC has to come to NY. I say this cuz I'm a New Yorker. 3 letters equal 2 words: UFC = Carrier Dome. My backyard. Do it! Economically it'd be great for the area. I mean, we currently have monster trucks coming to the dome and it brings a lot of business to our hotel, bringing UFC to town, 50x better. I'd go to Rochester too. NY UFC
