Dana White has been nudging Roy Nelson, and trying to convince him to drop to 205 for a while now. Today, "Big Country" suddenly made a pretty smart bet by saying that he will finally drop to light heavyweight, IF he can add 100,000 'likes' in Facebook.
Here's Nelson explaining it in his own words:
The reason is my friend and I had a discussion about what was better? I think twitter just because of use and for fans interaction, but Facebook is 20x bigger. So we decided to bet. I said if it so easy and great I should be able add 100K fans in 2 weeks because I have that on twitter. Facebook is bigger and better so this should be easy. Right?
Bet is I will try to get to 205 if I can add 100k to Facebook.com/RoyNelsonUFC in two weeks. I love to win bets. Plus he will have to give me a part in his next movie.

I liked the page just cause I would like to see the dude put in more work but does anyone think he can survive at 205? Its just lean HW with better skills IMO. I think if he droped to 225 he would look much better at HW. He is rather fat I wonder if 185 would out of reach? I know it wouldn't be all at once buti bet between fat and water he could make it.

At 205 he's going to struggle, that's for sure. He has good striking, decent wrestling, great BJJ and a hell of a chin but look at the top of the division. He's going to lose against 90% of the top 20 imo. I wouldn't mind seeing him throw down with Forrest Griffin, that'd be a winnable fight. Same with Bonnar. Outside of that he's going to struggle greatly with wrestlers who will put him on his back and hold him there or out strike him.
I don't see him fairing too well at 225 either though. I know this point has been beaten to death but a 225 or 235 pound division would be perfect for guys like Roy. There are too many 250+ pound Heavyweights that will use their size against him. Werdum and Mir are perfect examples of that. And Beltran getting his ass whooped by Johnson is another example of that situation.
If he could somehow make it to Middleweight without being completely drained that would be his best bet for success. He won't win a title but I could definitely see him beating guys like Stann or Maia.
With all that being said though Roy needs to do something with his career. And this Facebook self promotion thing will definitely help in some way or another.

I don't disagree with anything you said. The 220-235 Division IMO there are just not enough guys to keep HX relevent and supply that division. Ifwe didn't have all the top athletes going to NBA NFL and so on then it would be great. Maybe in time.

That's very true. As the sport expands hopefully we see that change and translate into more kids wanting to become mma fighters. Until then fighters like Roy are out of luck I guess. Luckily he's got a ton of fan support.

Consider Roy Nelson on facebook, "liked" Idk what he can do to revamp his game, I don't think MW LHW or HW hold the answers for him, but as long as he has that fire and that chin, we will keep seeing him battle.

I "liked" Nelson's Facebook. 70,7xx likes. IMO, I think MMA has too many weight classes at the lower weights and not enough at the higher weights. <125 140 155 170 185 205 235 265 300< Maybe no need for the 300<, not enough fighters, but the gap between batam and feather is just too small.

i hope he does it regardless of the stupid facebook thing. it would be so sick to see roy fight at 205. plus, it could totally extend his career. he has had some rocky last few fights at HW, getting cut has gotta be on his mind. at 205 he could probably insure him self at least 3 more fights. hes always been that athletic fat guy, why not be the "former" athletic fat guy
