Big news in the UFC. Well, actually, it's rather small news.

OK, I'll lay off the size wisecracks and simply let you know that with the behemoth fight promotion launching its flyweight tournament at Friday night's UFC on FX event in Sydney, Australia (9 p.m. ET, FX), it's time for SI.com to add the 125-pound weight division to our monthly rankings. Sure, we could wait to see what happens in this weekend's two semifinal bouts, then introduce the crème de la fly crème next month. But like a thrill-a-second mixed martial artist, we're not about to sit back and play it safe. We're just boldly going for it.

LOL. I used to care about rankings, but that has eroded hard with time. I have my own personal ones, and those are all that matter to me.

However, that is terribly funny. That was posted before UFC on FX: Alves vs. Kampmann. Before Benavidez and Johnson even fought at flyweight. When Ian McCall was going to lose to Demetrious Johnson, because he was a neophyte fighting against established UFC talent and him being labelled the #1 flyweight in the world was just a matter of the UFC not having the division. Obviously Benavidez was #1 and Johnson was #2 last week, before they had a single fight at flyweight. (Coincidentally, this week Johnson has one fight and no wins at flyweight.)

I usually find reason behind rankings, and I think one could argue that Benavidez is the #1 flyweight in the world right now, but SI is obviously riding the UFC sack hard with their ridiculous rankings.

I can't remember the last time I saw a loss propel someone up in the rankings.

I have a problem with Benavidez beatingg the weakest guy in the tourney and jumping Uncle Creepy who IMO won the fight but gets shafted with a draw. He was number 1 doesn't lose a fight and wasn't able to fight his extention round at no fault of his. I hate rankings.
