A major middleweight bout between two of the division's most entertaining fighters has been added to the UFC on FOX 3 card.

UFC president Dana White today announced that well-rounded Alan Belcher (17-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) meets submission specialist Rousimar Palhares (14-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) at the upcoming event.

UFC on FOX 3 takes place May 5 at IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J. The main card, including a Jim Miller vs. Nate Diaz headliner, airs on FOX, and prelims are expected to air on FUEL TV.

Belcher vs. Palhares is likely to be part of the FOX-televised main card.

The latest UFC on FOX 3 card now includes:

Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller
Johny Hendricks vs. Josh Koscheck
Alan Belcher vs. Rousimar Palhares
Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson
John Hathaway vs. Pascal Krauss
John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama
Danny Castillo vs. John Cholish
Mike Massenzio vs. Karlos Vemola
Louis Gaudinot vs. John Lineker

If Belcher can stay on his toes this fight, he might get a shoe-in for a top 5 opponent next fight. I hope he's done the legwork for beating Paul Harris, but he's going to have to kick up his training especially during the last leg of his camp. 'Harris is heavy handed, but if they go toe to toe Belcher should have a leg up on him.
Either way this fight is going to be boss

I like this fight. Belcher not only has awesome defensive jiu-jitsu, he is a huge middleweight in both mass and frame. I think he's both smart and talented enough to keep the fight standing, and I'm picking him to punchersize Palhares' face over and over for the UD.

That said, it's kind of weird that the threat of a stoppage here isn't from a flash KO but from a slick leglock out of nowhere. Palhares showed a great chin against Hendo, and he's taken very little damage since that time. I don't think he'll be put away by Belcher, and he's got the durability to remain a menace throughout the fight.

Really nice matchmaking, looking forward to it.

Very interesting fight, Striker vs Grappler is always an interesting fight to watch. If it hits the ground, Palhares takes a leg home, if it stays standing, Belcher could take this. Here's to hoping Palhares doesn't start celebrating prematurely

Belcher should avoid the locks, Jim Miller did, I like Belcher and don't wanna see him hurt again, he is not the best mw contender atm, but he is technical, and brings it, I wanna see Paul Harris(Coined) fight Maia or Chael, someone who has to take it to the ground to win.
