1. Players will draft a fight team at the very beginning of the game, the sooner the better so that it gets more interesting. This will be a snake draft, with draft order selected at random. 2. Teams will be quasi-permanent with certain trading, drafting, releasing allowed but resulting in penalties. 3. You score points based on the fighters you own, but there are no salary related handicaps or restrictions etc. For instance, you may pick anyone you want, but the only way you score points is if they fight and win. This would mean GSP would be a bad choice because despite being the top of the division, he will only fight once this year which will not earn anyone very many points. 4. The scoring is real time. Nothing will be based on past performances other than what factors into picking a team. If you pick Cerrone, you may have a cash cow on your hands because he fights (and wins) very often. His fight against Yves Edwards would be the first choice to score points with him as your fighter. 5. Should your fighter get cut from the UFC or go on an uncomfortable losing streak you can drop them at a point expense and pick up a free agent who was either overlooked or is new to the UFC. 6. Time: The most time intensive portion of this game will be the draft. Until everyone gets the hang of the system, I will tally the points. You will only score points when a fighter you own fights, so updates will only occur after a UFC event. Currently I am planning on keeping this game running for about three months and can reevaluate the game after 6/29/12 Scoring system: Each player has a team comprised of your drafted fighters. Gains 1. Your fighter wins a fight: 8 points 2. Your fighter finishes the fight: additional 2 points rd 3, additional 3 points rd 2, additional 5 points rd 1. 3. Your fighter earns S/K/FOTN: additional 8 points 4. Your fighter fights for a title: additional 5 points 5. Your fighter headlines a card: additional 3 points 6. Your fighter is on the main card: additional 1 point
Losses 1. Your fighter loses a fight: -2 points 2. Your fighter gets finished: -2 points rd 3, -3 points rd 2, -5 points rd 1 (in addition to original -2 points) 3. Dropping a fighter is a -5 point penalty when you draft a free agent

I edited that now, thanks emfleek. Currently I am planning on letting it go until the end of the year. It will be slower than most games with only a few midgame adjustments for players, so people won't get sick of it over that long of a time span since it will just be a casual fun addition to watching fights and coming to this site.

I would do a test run for a few months to see if there are any kinks or tweaks that need to be made. June 29 (UFC Brazil - Sao Paulo) would be a good time to reassess it and if this is running smooth, we can just keep it as is and continue on to the end of the year.
How many fighters on each roster? Max/min fighters per weigh class? What site are you using for underdog odds? I dont agree with being docked points for a trade. No other fantasy league/pool I have played in does so...and in those leagues I talk trade fairly often. It's just my managing style, but if this sticks then I will have to adapt
Personally I think the point layout is a little high. Down the stretch the races wouldnt be as close or interesting with the potential large gaps. Here is how I would adjust it: Gains 1. Your fighter wins a fight: 5 points 2. Your fighter finishes the fight: additional 2 points rd 3, additional 3 points rd 2, additional 5 points rd 1. imo it should be consistent with the losing fighter 3. Your fighter earns S/K/FOTN: additional 5 points 4. Your fighter fights for a title: additional 5 points 5. Your fighter headlines a card: additional 3 points 6. Your fighter is on the main card: additional 1 point 7. Your fighter is a +300 underdog and wins: additional 2 points underdogs are +, favourites are - Losses 1. Your fighter loses a fight: -2 points 2. Your fighter gets finished: -2 points rd 3, -3 points rd 2, -5 points rd 1 (in addition to original -2 points) 3. Dropping a fighter is a -3 point penalty when you draft a free agent 4. Trading: should you and another player wish to trade fighters, both parties lose 2 points after completing the transaction. 5. Your fighter is a -300 favourite and loses: -2 points added in to balance the underdog bonus

Im in! Just a precaution though.... I did a similar game in my camp with 7 players picking 3 fighters per division and doing two divisions at a time and it took almost 10 days. There is a very high probability that even at 2 fighters each per division we may not finish the draft before the event on wednesday?!?!

I don't have a problem with any of those ideas bubbles. I could consider dropping the trading and drafting penalties, but without them people will play the system. Once your fighter fights drop pick a new one up and get a more recent event on the table. That would kind of ruin the game so I want a safeguard to stop anyone from add/drop a bunch of fighters after every event. As for trading, it's unlikely people will work as a team so it may be far fetched to think they will trade to just benefit one player over and over.
For start time, I meant I wanted to get the game in order and the draft started after Ellenberger vs Sanchez.

I would say if anything that you should increase trade penalties to 5 points to discourage people from manipulating their fosters to suit upcoming events. Specifically, if your fighter is cut from the roster or injured for some length of time you should suffer a significant penalty for picking a questionable fighter.

We need to be clear what we're addressing here. A trade would be between two players, so someone trying to manipulate their rosters would have to convince another player to help them stack their roster. As for adding and dropping, I agree there should be a penalty, perhaps a steep one to avoid the add/drop game from happening every time an event comes up. We may just need to let it play out to see if the penalty needs to be raised or lowered. 5 points doesn't sound outlandish to me though.
