Jorge Rivera (19-9 MMA, 7-7 UFC) has decided to call it a career after his fight with Eric Schafer (12-6-2 MMA, 3-5 UFC) tonight on UFC on FX 1.

The veteran announced the news today on MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio).

Rivera has often flirted with the idea but made up his mind recently.

"I've thought about this for a long time," Rivera said. "If I would have won my last fight, I would have walked away. But that's not how it worked out, and I just told myself I would leave no matter what happens.

"It's time to go. I'm starting to feel like that old man in the club trying to pick up chicks. It gets a little creepy after a while."

I just cry like a baby. It's weird because it even sounds like a baby.

Let's hope he pulls a Lytle not a Couture on the retirement fight.

Schafer really pissed me off in this one. He just fell apart in the 2nd after getting hit. Very frustrating. Same with my Morecraft pick. Both looked good then boom.

How many other guys can claim at least 15 fights in the UFC with a winning record. The list has gotta be something like Hughes/Ortiz/GSP/Penn/Liddell/Franklin/?

Anderson & Forrest are one fight away from 15. He's really the only one that stands out among the crowd as a non HOF'er, unless someone can point another guy like him out, so I think that's a solid career.

I wanted to say Lytle, but when I looked him up he ended his run at exactly .500 (10-10). Fairly soon, a lot of fighters will be hitting 15; Guillard hit his tonight, I think, but regardless, Rivera is a relic from the past, when getting a fight in the UFC depended on room in their relatively tight schedule.

Rivera was always really odd for me to watch. He seemed perpetually caught in slow motion. It always seemed like he was fighting at half-speed, everybody could see the punch he was about to throw, but he his opponent anyway.
