UFC light heavyweight contender Dan Henderson wants a shot at reigning division champion Jon Jones, and from the sound of it, he wants it sooner rather than later.
"Hendo" was offered a headlining bout opposite former PRIDE FC rival Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who submitted the Greco-Roman wrestler via first round armbar at "Total Elimination" back in 2005.
The rematch, as well as the opportunity to avenge his loss to "Little Nog," was a fight he "didn't think the fans would be interested in." In addition, he wanted "more time to prepare for a five round main event."
Considering Henderson recently went to hell and back against Mauricio Rua at UFC 139, it's a valid concern.
The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion told the powers that be "thanks, but no thanks," and Nogueira was quickly paired off against Alexander Gustafsson for the UFC on FUEL TV fight card on April 14 in Sweden

I have no problem with this. Dan isn't some up and comer, he deserves to pick and choose his fights at this point in his career.

This reminds me of when they wanted Franklin to fight Gustafsson. It's a Lose/Lose situation. He stands nothing to gain in terms of ranking but has the world to lose if Lil Nog pulls the upset.
No problem with this whatsoever.

And Lil Nog just got his first win in a while against Ortiz.
But I thought Lil Nog and shogun were going to be matched up.
Hendo will fight Jones though, once Rashad loses.

He should be able to turn down any fights he wants. He's paid his dues, hes been around a long time. Plus he knows what everyone really wants to see. Jones vs. Henderson

Exactly. And guys like Franklin and Hendo have already proved themselves in the sport. It's not a bad thing by any means for them to only want fights that will move them forward in their careers. Especially when they don't have a lot of time left.

Dan Henderson is one of my heroes, and right up their with the Diaz brothers as my absolute favorite fighters. But I am personally VERY interested in him rematching Lil Nog.
Let's say Hendo waits, gets Jones, and wins. What are the odds Lil Nog gets through Gustaffson? I don't think he'll get steamrolled, but I don't really think he will win. Even if Rogerio does beat The Mauler, anyone think he'll get to a LHW title shot?
Granted, if Dan loses to Jones, this match is still around to make. I think now would be a much better time to do it. It's marketable, and it only adds to Hendo's legend if avenges his loss. He is on an incredible run as is, that would he a nice milestone on that streak.
Whatever is clever though. Hendo was just in one of the most brutal 25 minute fights ever about two months ago. If he needs more recuperation and training, so be it. As much as I would like to see him build on his crazy momentum, Hendo is no spring chicken.

Yeah no surprise into why he turns down this fight its a lose/lose situation. Hendo is up there in age and wants to make sure each fight is a huge one while on this run.
