UFC veteran Jon Madsen (7-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is the latest addition to Bellator Fighting Championships' heavyweight roster.
Madsen's trainer and manager, Marc Fiore of Fiore MMA, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the fighter this past month inked a deal that will see him compete in the promotion's next heavyweight tournament.
The timing of such a tournament is up in the air. A Bellator official said there are currently no plans for the heavyweights in its upcoming sixth season, but a tournament is planned for this year.
While he waits, Madsen is set to fight Jan. 21 in regional competition.

I'm betting were gonna see a lot more of the ex-UFC fighters end up in Bellator now, with all these tourny's and possible star power I could see Bellator becoming much more popular

When did Madsen exit the UFC? I believe he only had 1 loss. I know he was the most exciting, but just found it odd.

Madsen got laid off AWHILE ago. Immediately following his lone UFC loss. I always find one-loss-pink-slips so curious I imagine Madsen rubbed Dana the wrong way or crossed Joe Silva on a bad day. BUT how?! & WHY?!?
Anyways it took him awhile to gain another contract. But atleast its a great one. Bellator is a fantastic organization & Madsen has the tools to make a splash in the heavyweight tourny

I don't remember seeing any news on him getting cut.
But we saw with Elliot Marshall that he was winning but not exciting or finishing.

His release from the UFC puzzled me too. Pretty sure he was still on a TUF contract, so money couldn't have been an issue, not like he was a big mouth either .
Good pickup for Bellator's HW division.

I think they cut him cause they didn't see him having a bright future with the UFC. He also wasn't the most impressive guy, so he didn't put many fans in the stands. I couldn't see him pissing off Dana or anything like that.

I got him confused with Justin Wren for a second and thought he was back from Congo from his life-altering transformation that led him to live with the pygmies to stop them from getting eaten by the rebels.
