"I think everyone thought that (Masvidal had the advantage striking) and I was eager to prove everyone wrong right there. I knew he was working hard on his takedown defense, it's hard to get guys down. Some things in training camp didn't allow me to do as much wrestling as I wanted to, so I knew I was going to have to strike with him. I'm confident. I may be the... you know, that's the toughest striker I think I've had to fight at 155 and I feel like I might be the best striker in the 155-pound division now."

Gilbert needs to stop fighting the guys ranked 25th in the world and move on to the top 15-10.....in other words he needs to move on to the UFC. I think he has pretty much cleared out the competition that the non UFC organizations have to offer at LW. Plus Zuffa owns SF now so it could be that much smoother of a transition. Do I really need to revisit the arguments that were had about Fedor (etc) crushing "cans" by replacing the name with Gil's.....I don't think so. I think there about 5 guys that would make for a good debut fight for him....Guillard being my first pick.

Gil should stop smoking with Nick Diaz. I really hope he doesn't think thats true. I had him tentatively as #4 lightweight last night and somewhere near 15 on P4P.. now i think he's maybe 10th among lightweights, (UFC fighters hold steady) and shouldn't be in the discussion for P4P.. i'm not impressed by his performance.

I think El Nino has a contact buzz from the Diaz Bros. If anything, I was more impressed with Jorge.

Edit....it's almost as if Gilbert is trying to convince himself out loud to the YouTube world.

Defininite top 5-10 but unlikely to rise to the top. I'd like to see him fight Guida again or somebody like Guillard to see if he can beat a top ten guy, if he does well throw him a bone.

Edgar would box him up, there's no way he's the best striker at 155.

I completely agree. The first thing I thought when I read this was, "He's delusional". Look at his face after the fight. his head movement clearly needs some work. I'm not saying his striking is bad because I think it's awesome. He's not great at anything though. He's just a really well rounded guy with great conditioning. I see several guys boxing him up in the ufc. There's only one way to know though so I hope Zuffa eventually makes the right decision and brings him over to the ufc.

gil is good, but after last night, i think im going to move him down a few spots in my top 10. i just dont think hes the same caliber as the top ufc 155'ers. number 6 or 7 sounds about right. i think he would absolutely get mauled by ben henderson.

You were more impressed with the striker that got out struck by the wrestler and was hesitant to pull the trigger during almost the whole fight? Not me my friend, not me.

Not the best striker or best grappler. He should have fought Frankie a year ago.

His kryptonite would be a guy like Maynard, someone with better wrestling and more power, I'd even argue that Bendo can beat him standing.

Melendez would be a good gate keeper in the ufc. He is by no means the best striker in the LW division.

Just feed him to the wolves already.

I think Gilberts reach gives him advantages on the feet that most dont have. But he's definitely not the best striker. Total nonsense. And this is coming from someone who thinks he would beat many of the top LW's in the UFC.

Edgar is the best striker in the division. Hands down.

While I obviously disagree that Edgar is the best striker in the division due to my Nate Diaz bias. I do think Gilbert is top 5.
