TORONTO -- MMA Fighting spoke to UFC president Dana White Thursday evening about why he decided to release Miguel Torres after the bantamweight fighter tweeted about a "rape van" recently. White explained his reasons for the release, why he didn't release other UFC fighters who appeared to make light of rape, and what kind of message he is sending to his fighters.

After hearing Dana's response, I respect where he is coming from, but I still disagree with his decision. Given some time, I just hope he feels the same way.

I respected his defence of Forrest's tweet, it gave it a new context.

I disagree completely about his justification of Rashad's comment though.

I have a feeling all the negative feedback he's getting right now will result in Miguel getting re-hired.

So what I basically got out of that, was because Torres didn't have a good enough excuse and didn't kiss ass immediately, he was made an example of.

Good to know that if there is a college rivalry and you want to use a rape joke that involves children, to get in a fighters head , that is acceptable.

Am I wrong?

"Think about what you're gonna say? Use common sense."

Live by your own words dana.

If Torres was quoting a show, then what is the big deal? Not like, he made that up himself. Really sick of dana.

Why would rashad be punished, he's in a main event fight.

I have a problem with the way the UFC can just "Release" fighters at will. Don't these fighters sign contracts? Fighters need a union to protect themselves from this sort of abuse.

yea all major sports have a union to try to protect the athletes for money hungry billionaire owners... I understand that athletes are held to higher standards since they are put in the public eye but seriously people need to stop being so freaking sensitive. it is just a joke

This reminds me of when he said Dennis Hallman was cut for wearing the speedo. I've reached my limits on Dana: PUT A MUZZLE ON HIM!

Good idea in theory.

But I imagine it wouldn't make the sport look very good if every fighter in the UFC started posting about rape vans on their twitter. The media would have a feeding frenzy.

While the comments made by Forrest and Miguel were both disgusting, the comments Rashad made were far, far more disgusting for several reasons:

1. This was a UFC on FOX presser. Great idea Rashad, let's make a joke about child rape/molestation and abuse at a press conference for the SECOND UFC event on major network television.

2. Rashad's excuse was as lame as they come. "I was Michigan State & he was Penn State, it is a rivalry and I wasn't thinking." This is the dumbest shit I have ever heard in my life. I am as big of a fan of college sports as they come and I've never said some stupid shit like this because of a rivalry. First off, Sandusky was in the football department, not wrestling. Secondly, IT'S CHILD RAPE!

3. Rashad has little excuse being a college educated man. He's not some thug from the streets that took up fighting as a means to escape "the life." He's a well educated man who attended one of the Nation's top schools and purports himself to be smart and well read.

Dumb, just dumb. Either fire them all, or hire them all back.

To quote Rocco from the Boondock Saints: "this mix and match bullshit's gotta go."

Why is Dana still allowed to make decisions like this? He no longer has much of a role in the matchmaking. He is not a major player in the negotiations with sponsors and TV. There is no reason he should be making personnel decisions at this point, either.

Dana is at his best when he plays hype man and host. He is great at the events. He is the man at pressers when he has control of the floor. He should stay in that realm, and leave the stuff that should be done behind the scenes in the hands of the guys behind the scenes like Lorenzo, Silva, and Ratner.

Maybe Dana had a bad experience in one of those vans and Torres' comment hit too close to home.

I love how Dana I'd friends with Tyson, a convicted rapist, and had him on TUF, but then Torres gets canned over a joke. Way to be a hypocrite Dana.
