In an interview with UFC President Dana White, SI.com is reporting that Miguel Torres has been released by the UFC following a “rape” comment he made on his twitter account. Here is an excerpt from that interview;
SI.com: And what about Miguel Torres’ tweet from yesterday?
White: This morning I’m on [Michael] Landsburg’s show, up here in Canada, and he hits me with the quote of what he tweeted. Now there’s no explanation for that. There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me. Again, you’re dealing with a guy that’s a smart guy, that owns his own business, that’s been one of the top fighters in the world forever. And I cut him today. He’s no longer with the UFC.
SI.com: Was that announced today?
White: It’s being announced right now to you. You’re the only one that knows. Miguel Torres has been cut from the UFC and his career with us now is over.

The tweet - "If a rape van was called a surprise van, more women wouldn't mind going for rides in them," Torres stated. "Everyone like surprises."

Just seen this on BlueSkiesburn twitter acc.
Make your punishments unilateral, Dana. You can't punish Miguel and not punish Rashad or Forrest Griffin
Have to agree with him 100% on that. I mean Rashad's comments were straight during a press conference. Forest is just a total jack ass on his twitter too. We all understand what both Griffin and Evans are to the UFC, but that's just turning the shoulder on them.

Damn that's serious! Forrest Griffin recently got in trouble for poking fun at rape on twitter and all they did was fine him. Not quite fair imo, although I was never a fan of Torres anyway.

Even worse, doesn't the UFC reward its fighters for generating buzz on twitter?
Make up your mind Dana, you can't have it both ways.

Not to mention, Torres' comments were not directly related to an actual incident like Rashad's were...a current incident impacting several children to boot. I'm thinking he was pissed because he was caught by surprise in an interview for which he had no answer. Dana should get used to Twitter controversies though. If you give the fighters bonuses for the best/funniest tweets, you're bound to have guys cross that line from time to time. I just hope this isn't a perma-ban.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

I personally just think Dana is trying to hold all of his guys together who have been used to less regulation because they didn't have network execs to please. Everybody realizes that things have to be different now with a FOX deal. If you read most of Torres' posts (several are hilarious but definitely faux paux) then you'll notice that this kind of humor is pretty regular with him specifically on Twitter. I actually am a big Torres fan, and I agree that the punishment should have been more uniform, but I also think we all have to realize that the organization as a whole is going to have to sort of learn on the fly for a little while. I'm thinking Torres to Bellator will be pretty cool though...

What show was he quoting?
Like I was saying after Dana's comment on Miller after his fight, he is too emotional. Really starting to dislike him. Action first, think later is probably his motto.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And you are correct, he's been worse than ever with this overly rash decision making. He's grown too big for his britches and doesn't realize that he's far more replaceable than he thinks.

It was from "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis" If I remember correctly
Edit - atleast thats the episode where Frank buys a rape van....I have no idea if that was a direct quote, I certainly don't remember it.

This is a bad decision. Torres is a big name in the BW division and firing him for quoting a television show is fucking ridiculous. Especially a show that's so damn awesome.
