Following a close decision loss to Brandon Vera at UFC 137, Eliot Marshall has announced his release from the UFC.

The light heavyweight confirmed his release via Twitter.

Marshall, who surprisingly was cut from the UFC's roster after a respectable 3-1 run in 2010, concludes his latest stint with a 0-2 mark.

"Well, it's official," Marshall wrote. "I have been released by the UFC."

Ah phooey. I like Marshall but I guess after 2 additional loses in a row after a return usually means curtains. That last fight was hella lame, but I wouldn't put the blame on Marshall at all.

Unfortunate. He simply doesn't have enough name recognition or time in with the company to be kept around after 2 straight losses.

I think he's a decent fighter (UFC level although not a contender/champion) and we'll probably see him back in the UFC sometime down the road, though I wouldn't expect much more success in his second stint.

I figured it wouldn't be long before they let him go again.

If he was a finisher or in a little more exciting fights, he might have a longer leash.

He beats Vera, gets screwed over and cut.. why not an immediate rematch... it was a loser leaves town match anyway, just cut the loser after the rematch and give Eliot his just dues for that.

I hear ya, but there's no call for a rematch for 2 reasons: 1. Tough calls are made by the judges all the time and rematches are not secured, otherwise Kampmann would spend his life rematching everyone. 2. There is no star power behind either fighter so there would be nobody clamoring for a rematch, especially because the fight was very slow.

Plus no one wants to see that rematch.
