ncer Bruce Buffer calls former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz‘s name in Toronto next weekend, for the first time in forever, he won’t be calling out “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.”
Ortiz, who faces Antonio Rogerio Nogueira on the main card of UFC 140, is moving on from his younger days of talking trash on opponents to build fights and putting his old moniker to bed.
He’s now fighting for his fans, his family, and for the future, putting the negativity behind him.
“No longer the bad boy, positive from here on out. I’m now the ‘People’s Champ,’” Ortiz told MMAWeekly Radio.

I don't like the idea of fighters just CHANGING their nickname.
I think nicknames should be earned or given by others based on some characteristic. Like the way they do it in Brazil.
You don't get to pick your own nickname.
He's still the Huntington Beach Bad Boy because that's what he's been for so long.

You don't see the very nice Wanderli Silva changing his nickname from the axe murderer.

"People's Champ"? Who the hell does he think he is kidding? It should be changed to "The Huntington Beach Has-Been" if there is supposed to be any truth behind it.

I agree, if his nicknames changing it shouldn't be his decision.

This is just as bad as Sanchez going from The Nightmare to The Dream.
The way he talked in the article is like he has become a born again fighter.

It is annoying since Tito naming himself the "People's champ" is much like Senator Palpatine appointing himself "The People's Emperor" yet neither of them ever asked ME and I do believe I am a subset within the primary set of "people". What's more ironic is that both of these fools did so because of a meddling young prospect named Darth Bader (Vader in some dialects). Also, if I'm not mistaken there is already a "People's Warrior", way to go Tito, way to "Come Original"
