Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will meet in a light heavyweight bout slated for Jan. 28.

The fight, which multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com, will take place at UFC on Fox 2, the promotion's second show on the network.

It's not the first time the UFC has booked this matchup. The two were scheduled to meet in August at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, but that bout fell through when Davis suffered a knee injury.

Evans (16-1-1) will look to solidify his place as the No. 1 contender at 205 pounds. He's currently riding a three-fight win streak, including a second-round TKO win over late-replacement Tito Ortiz in August.

Shad takes it, beating Davis in every area.

While promising, Davis is far behind Rashad at just about everything.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Evans finish Davis without much trouble.

Y'know, I was thinking the same thing when they first made this matchup. The only way Davis wins is if he stays long. If he can do that, and somehow get his takedowns and maintain good ground position.....Well, I guess that's a recipe for anyone to win an MMA match.... But it's possible!

Davis is a great fighter but right now his only strong point is wrestling. Rashad is clearly a better wrestler and will most like just push Davis up against the cage and take him down securing his victory. Rashad will probably win by a decision (probably boring) but understandable, he can't afford to lose.

I would because Evans is hungry like a caged animal and by far has been training his but off...Phil davis standup looked so bad against Nog I think he just might get KTFO....

I bet Rashad is gonna stand and sprawl and KO first RD....Davis is overrated in MMA but can def use his wrestlin to advance...But hes not anywhere near Evans and Jones...

You're right. I'm sure Davis has been spending most of his time eating Cheetos and watching Dancing with the Stars.

i dont like Evans so im rooting for Davis. that being said, Evans has a better chance at beating Jones (if he beats Machida) so i kinda want him to win as i dislike Jones too

Rashad looked vicious in his last fight, he takes this one in impressive fashion. Im thinking 3rd round TKO.

The knee to the body has always been there for many fighters. I am surprised it has not been used much.

I'm pretty well with everyone else on the bored, but I do think Davis has the potential to take Rashad down and lay on him for a while. That being said I think the more significant discussion here is the one where Rashad has some sort of no title shot allowed cloud that follows him around. He's a one loss guy on a three fight win streak who was promissed a title shot after the Rampage win forever ago. Now I understand he has had some injuries, but a lot of guys would just sit on the sidelines until the shot was available. I'm not even a huge Rashad fan, but I feel like he's been really unfortunate during this run.

Although I agree that Rashad will likely win and is a better overall MMA fighter, Rashad is not the better wrestler. Phil Davis is a Division 1 NCAA national champion and a four time all american. Rashad was a Jr. College national champion and then wrestled D1, but to my knowledge was never an all american, let alone a D1 National Champion.
