It may be last chance time for two light-heavyweights on the ropes.
Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that a bout pitting Steve Cantwell (7-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC) against Riki Fukuda (17-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is targeted for UFC 144. MMAWeekly.com initially reported the matchup.
UFC 144 is set for Feb. 26 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Broadcast plans for the event have yet to be announced.
Cantwell desperately needs a win in the octagon since a successful crossover from the now-defunct WEC to the UFC. He submitted Razak Al-Hassan in gruesome fashion at "UFC Fight Night 16: UFC Fights for the Troops" only to drop four consecutive bouts against the likes of Luiz Cane, Brian Stann, Cyrille Diabate, and most recently, Mike Massenzio.

Really surprised they kept Cantwell around, Fukuda should take this one easily, he won his last fight too imo

Me too, I thought his last fight was going to be a loser leaves down bout. I hope he wins, I think he has potential at MW to put on some exciting fights. He just needs to be gentle in training, he always seems to be out due to injury.

I didn't even notice that. Junkie is good except for all these little mistakes they let through. They need to polish themselves up if they're going to be expanding.

I've never understood the Cantwell hype. He's looked awful in the ufc with the exception of his win over Razak Al-Hassan.

Yeah, it's not like he is a legend, keeping him around out of respect, or even fought in close fights.
Hopefully Fukuda doesn't have the same judges as he did for the Ring fight.

Why would Steve even take another UFC fight at this point, he's ruining his chances of coming back in the future (if he even made it back). Maybe he thinks this is his one shot in the UFC so he's gonna take fights as long as they give them to him. Fukuda is a pretty good japanese wrestler and I expect him to take Steve down for 3 rounds. There's no one at MW in the UFC I can see Steve beat, I think he should back out of this fight and get some wins in the small leagues.
