"I have no idea if this is common practice for UFC events, but Esther Lin of MMAFighting.com captured an interesting sight on Saturday night. UFC staff painting over the blood already on the canvas, prior to the main event airing on FOX.
Business as usual? Zuffa simply wanting to put their best foot forward? A warning sign that FOX may not be fully embracing all aspects of the sport? What say you?"

What do you guys think?

If that's what they're doing then I'm sure it was suggested and agreed upon by both parties at least for this first event. I would certainly hope they wouldn't do this in the future but, if they do, I couldn't honestly care less.

I don't think its a common practice. I could careless about blood in the octagon, but maybe some over sensitive/over critical viewers care.
UFC wants the step their best foot forward, it was a good idea painting over the blood for the first ever event on FOX. But blood should be the least of concerns, educating the people about MMA should be #1 priority.

I wouldn't read to much into it. Much like a zamboni cleans the ice between periods in hockey, they wanted a fresh canvas for the live show on Fox.
I highly doubt it's a warning that Fox isn't embracing the sport, I think they know blood will flow, it is a combat sport after all. Like I said they wanted the fresh clean look for the fight.

I guess the Tide sticks didn't work.
Don't think they've done that before to this extent. They would wipe the blood/scrub but not paint it b/c how could that affect that spot on the cage with the fighters with slipping.

Good thing the fight didn't last long enough to find out if they would slip.
Honest answer now, I think the down time, waiting for the main event to start was long enough for the paint to dry, because they air brushed it.

Yep, pretty much this. They had all the bright lights and flashy graphics...what's the point if the canvas isn't gonna look neat and clean as well. I wouldn't doubt if they do it again prior to each Fox broadcast. It'll get messed up over time, but there's no good reason it can't start out clean at the beginning of the broadcast.

I noticed this right away during the broadcast. Probably a good idea by FOX. I could just imagine the newcomers to the sport on the fence about it in the first place, seeing a blood stained canvas. I wouldn't mind if they did this all the time with title fights.

It is better they clean the canvass every time after a fight. Fighters are supposed to be clean but you never know - someone may have contracted aids or herpes a few days before - and instead of one fighter contracting the disease, there is a potential for all the fighters that night to contract the disease.
So yes, clean it and make it look good and disease free for every fight.
