The manager for Mackens Semerzier is contesting the UFC bantamweight's TKO loss to Robert Peralta at this past Saturday's UFC on FOX event.

Brian Butler of SuckerPunch Entertainment today informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has filed an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission.

Veteran referee "Big" John McCarthy officiated the bout and said he didn't see an accidental headbutt during the fight that ultimately contributed to its end.

Semerzier (6-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) vs. Peralta (16-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) took place on the preliminary card of UFC on FOX, which streamed live on Facebook and FOXSports.com.

The accidental clash of heads came well into in the third round as the two exchanged punches. In real time, it appeared as though Semerzier was dropped by a punch as he threw a combination at Peralta. However, video replays inside the arena showed he was sent to the canvas when Peralta's head caught him in the temple.

"I did not see their heads clash, causing the knockout," McCarthy said. "Because if you look where I was at, Robbie's head was toward me, so Semerzier's head was on the other side, and they both threw a left hand and then a right hand that came across, and I thought those punches were what caused Mack to be hurt. (I) didn't even know that it was a headbutt."

I say, have them fight again and overturn the decision. They were having a great fight before the headbutt and I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the fight again.

Exactly, reminds me of the Bonnar/Soszynski fight when the headbutt caused that deep cut to Bonnar. (Bull Bonnar's wasn't overturned though)

I'm sure it will get overturned. Let's see them fight again.

Once Bruce Buffer announces the result of the fight we have to live with it, no matter what happens afterwards.

it won't get overturned, it should, but the athletic commissions are a joke, they don't overturn anything. Bonnar vs Krystof, who can forget johnson vs burns, even jones vs hamill.obvious fights that were appealed but never overturned

Bonnar vs Krystof was completely different, it was called due to a cut, yes from a headbutt, but as far as that goes, shit happens, it wasnt intentional. The fight was called because of the deep cut. Bonnar could have continued otherwise, anyway the ref looks at it, its still a cut and up to the doc.

This was a headbutt that lead to the wrong call being made, Mackens could not have continued, and had Big John seen it, the fight would have been called anyways, because Mackens was out.

this will most likely be overturned.

actually if you look at the rules the headbutt was not what stopped the fight it was because of the punches after. So it shouldnt be overturned and i hope it doesnt get overturned.

if it does it was in the third round which means it goes to whoever was ahead on the judges cards which i think was Peralta with the 2nd round and the third round up to that point being his. So victory still should go to Peraltas maybe ends up getting overturned to dec loss for Mack at best.

Overturned to a decision loss? Do you even know what the word 'overturned' means?

It would have only gone to the judges' scorecards had the ref stopped the fight because of the head butt (or because Mackens couldn't continue). Big John wasn't even aware that there *was* a headbutt until well after the results were announced. At this point, I believe a NC is all we can expect (or hope for). The AC will not retroactively change it to a unanimous decision victory for Peralta based on Semerzier's appeal.
