There have been rumors for months about Bellator staging a rematch between their lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and the Dream lightweight champion Shinya Aoki. Today, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney confirmed the rumors and said the bout was signed for February - on one condition (via MMA Weekly):
The only hurdle left to go before the fight happens is Alvarez defending his Bellator lightweight title against tournament winner Mike Chandler in just over a week. That by no means is a gimmee. Rebney understands that and so does Alvarez.
"To be completely honest, Ed has got his hands full against Mike Chandler. Mike Chandler is an absolute freak of nature in terms of his wrestling. His stand-up has really come around. Chandler’s a beast," said Rebney.

I would be interested in a rematch with Melendez in the DREAM ring.

Regardless of who wins, Alvarez has KO'd multiple opponents on the feet, and Aoki has been KO'd multiple times on the feet. You probably just haven't watched enough of either fighter. I'm sure you can find their fights on the internet though to catch up.

You've never seen alvarez vs japanesse legend tawajiri who melendez just ko'd in his career defining fight so far? And Amada who's from legendary chutebox if you've heard about him.
Not to mention he ko'd ufc vets derrick noble who beat alves before and last a war in their 2nd fight after hurting alves to the body, and ko'd Aaron riley. The man's a monster boxer as also seen in his body punching clinic against curran who has a helluva a jaw. Huerta has an iron chin and so does neerso don't be fooled if alvarez isn't going around chuck liddelling everybody the man can punch and aoki's chin is pretty poor so if anybody can put him to sleep its alvarez who's a better boxer then melendez.

While I don't share his enthusiasm, Alvarez can KO Aoki.

Alvarez can absolutely Ko Aoki, but i think Aoki's chin issues are overblown. The guy gets stopped by tremendous strikes everytime he gets put out.
