Fans soon will be able to watch a handful of UFC events in 3D at select movie theaters.

UFC officials today announced the promotion has partnered with digital theatrical distribution company Cinedigm Digital Cinema to bring the 3D UFC events to 120 theaters across the U.S.

The UFC's next Super Bowl weekend show, which takes place Feb. 4, is the first of four annual events that is part of the agreement.

"By partnering with Cinedigm, we're taking the UFC viewing experience to a whole new level," UFC president Dana White stated. "For the first time ever, fight fans can watch a UFC pay-per-view card in 3D at theatres across the country. We want UFC fans to have the best viewing experience possible, and now they get a chance to experience major UFC pay-per-views in 3D."

No details have been announced for the Super Bowl Saturday show, though White recently said it'll take place in Las Vegas, likely at the Mandalay Bay Events Center...

I can honestly say that I have absolutely no desire to watch a fight in 3D. I don't think there can be too much done with it outside of graphics and promo material in between fights. That stuff could be 3D but with the way cameras are positioned around (and not inside) the cage, I'm thinking it'd be rather difficult to accomplish much in terms of 3D broadcasting of the actual fights.

Sounds like a gimmick to me. Like Fleek stated already, I'm not sure how well the 3d will translate. Give me crystal clear HD baby!

I don't know how it will turn out in 3D, but depending on the price this might be a good thing. I doubt they're charging 49.95 in the theatre for the fight.

I would try it once with my 3-D TV but thats it. I would never go to a movie theater to watch the UFC

3D or not, I will not subject myself to watching a ufc event in a theater filled with strangers. I rather be in the comfort of my home watching it with family and friends. Furthermore, I like to cheer and discuss the fights as they are happening which I think will not be allowed and even if it was allowed, I would not want to hear what other strangers have to say. It is difficult as it is to discuss mma on an mma forum whereby e-wars are almost impossible to avoid. I want e-wars to stay e-wars.

No, I don't want to talk to you in person, Quezocrema.

I've been to the theater a few times, and I prefer it to a bar, the sound is usually clearer so you really don't hear the jerks next to you that much and it's just cool to see it on such a huge screen. As for the 3-D I don't think it will add that much and it could be kind of lame to have the promo crap leaping out at me. I'll try it but really I just want to see Arianny

I must be the only who CAN NOT WAIT for some 3D UFC... Wont be in cinemas for me, But really want some 3D Blurays for home. Old 3D leaped out at you (Blue/Red style) Stereoscopic 3D has depth, Not 1 3D image jumping out of a 2D image.

This will be awesome, Just to ask what 3D films have the people not interested seen? Stereoscopic...

I'm not too sure how this is going to work out but I'm going to go and try it out, that's for sure.

i'd be willing to bet the only good shots are the slo-mo replays in between rounds, but they might get lucky & have someone's mouthpiece fly out directly into the camera.

& i'd totally watch ufc in a theater....if that theater served beer

I wanted to see UFC in theaters when they first started that, which I think was maybe over a year ago. It's just so much cheaper to get the friends together and split the PPV cost.

I can see where Fleek and the rest of you guys are coming from RE: the 3D though. How will it work? Would your 3D view be blocked by the now 3D cage? What kind of cameras will the crew on the side of the ring be using? Will half be holding 3D cameras and the others standard HD cams? What about top-down views? Those won't translate for shit in 3D.

I've only ever seen Thor in 3D. I thought the movie was pretty good, but the 3D didn't wow me like I had hoped. I'll probably still give the UFC in 3D a shot though, in the off chance it could kick a little ass.

imho, the best 3d experiences are the wildlife docs made for imax 3d.

i did see a 30 minutes journey to the center of the earth 4D w/ the rumbling chairs, wind & water splashing on you & stuff. that was pretty cool, but i did pay $15 for 30 minutes. couldn't imagine how much an entire full length film would cost if it was done that way

i think i would go check it out. as long as its not as expensive as a regular 3D movie. i think i paid like 13 bucks at the regal to see THOR. high definition would be fine with me
