Jorge Santiago has been released by the UFC. The Middleweight fighter is coming off a loss to Demian Maia at UFC 136. Santiago made his return to the UFC earlier this year, losing to Brian Stann at UFC 130 before falling to Maia. This was Santiago's second run in the UFC as he was 1-2 in the company back in 2006.
In the years between his two UFC runs, Santiago established himself as one of the top Middleweights in the world outside of the UFC, putting together a solid 11-1 record. His major success came in Japan, where he claimed the Sengoku Middleweight championship and turned some heads with a pair of classic fights against Kazuo Misaki. His work in Japan earned him a lot of respect, and many fans were excited about his return to the UFC.

I think had he received a few "warm-up" fights he would've been okay. But let's face it, he got thrown to the wolves against Stann and Maia.
I thought for sure he'd get one more shot against a mid-tier guy.
Bellator should be all over this.

Just one of those guys that can't seem to put it together in the UFC, but does well outside the UFC.

It would be interesting, both Santiago and Lombard used to train together at ATT. Now that Santiago isn't there anymore, they should be able to throw down. It would make an exciting fight.

Too soon. Why go through the trouble of getting the guy just to release him quickly? Maybe his contract was a bit higher than he was worth coming off of his ridiculously high rankings in MW before entering the ufc.

I thought he would to pretty well this time around. I also thought his first couple fights would be against guys like Grove, or Belchar. they kind of threw him to the dogs, but thats how she goes I guess, kill or be killed.

With all his hype and skills I thought both fights were winable...the guys he lost to at the time couldnt have been ranked much higher thank himself at the time, this is my problem....you drop a world class highly respected guy like Santiago yet you keep the Creduers and Hermans....makes no sense as they have droped two in a row before in the UFC and to much less highly ranked/talented/known fighters.......WHY!?
