Maybe we'll get to see Nick Diaz vs. Georges St. Pierre after all.
Dana White confirmed to MMA Weekly that, should Diaz defeat B.J. Penn at UFC 137, he will indeed get a shot at the Welterweight title against the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit.
Diaz was of course originally set to face St. Pierre in the main event of UFC 137, but after repeatedly no showing press conferences, White pulled him from the match, giving the title shot to Condit instead. Days later, Diaz was back in for the show, but this time facing B.J. Penn in the semi-main event.
For Diaz, this is a huge break, but still a tough challenge. Penn is a former Welterweight champion who is currently ranked #7 in the division in the USA Today / SB Nation Consensus Rankings. He's 1-0-1 at 170 since his return to the division, and is always a threat to anyone in the division. Diaz is currently ranked at #4, and is undefeated since 2007. But Penn represents a real step up from the competition former Strikeforce champion Diaz has faced as of late.

What if Diaz doesn't show up again?
I don't know that I could find the original article, but after the cancellation Dana said something along the lines of "I'm just going to have to deal with Diaz differently than any of the other fighters." I wouldn't be surprised if Nick pulled the same stunt and still got his shot, just because I think Dana will at least be more prepared for that to happen.

I think this is a pretty big IF. I could see it going either way, but what if BJ wins? Do we really need another Penn vs GSP fight? Maybe when Ellenberger wins again he would be next in line if Penn wins...or something.

Diaz just doesn't like to hype fights, that's usually what his opponent does. He wants to show up, fight, and go home. Which would be fine anywhere but the UFC.
The UFC is based on hyping matchups with press conferences, interviews, etc. and it's in the contract that you have to do them, especially as a main event.
I don't think he'd talk much, but I do think if he beats Penn, he wouldn't miss any of them now that he knows the expectations. We'd probably get a lot of priceless sound-bytes about the scoring system in MMA, and GSP laying on people. Not to assume GSP beats Condit as both fights could go either way.

I assumed that this was a given when the fights were swapped. If he was getting a title shot anyway, beating someone like Penn could only possibly move you forward, and since they're both fighting on the same night, the timing is obviously perfect.

You are assuming GSP beats Condit. GSP may not beat Condit.

condit is dangerous. IMO more dangerous than GSP's last few opponents. with that said, i think dana should punish diaz with one more fight for that crap he pulled, plus, im not convinced diaz is better than Kos, fitch, sanchez, kampman etc. im not saying i dont want to see the fight, i just think he needs to prove that hes worth a title shot. the strikforce belt means nothing to me.

Paul Daley beat Kampmann... Diaz beat Daley.... Sanchez barely beat Kampmann...
I'll admit I think BJ should beat him but I wouldn't knock on Diaz's achievements

Nah, I'm just trying to mention why he feels the need to bring up Sanchez and Kampmann.... When neither of them have anywhere near a solid case as Diaz to have a title shot

People are acting like beating a legend & marketable fighter like penn doesn't warrant a title shot. Can he beat Fitch or Kos ? Prob not because of his style but he lost his title shot because of politics and if he wins this then he deff warrants his shot

GSP will do Condit just like Hardy.
