Boxing commentator Larry Merchant is a long-time foe of Mixed Martial Arts, in the manner of a toothless cro magnon telling a Geico commercial looking guy that he wouldn't use that crazy fire stuff if you paid him all the delicious termites on the savanna.

On September 17th, Merchant got into a verbal spat with Roger Mayweather, and snarled perhaps the single most dubious sentence ever uttered in a boxing ring "I wish I was 50 years younger and I would kick your ass." Lifelong boxing fan Dana White finally stopped always holding his feelings back, and spoke his mind.

"The guy is senile, he's out of his mind. He's up there berating Floyd, but Floyd can't say anything back to you? You've been disrespecting guys your whole career, and guess what, you can go back 60 years, you're not kicking Floyd's ass, okay? Give me a break. And what's Floyd going to do? A 102-year-old guy just said that to him."

Now Merchant responds.

I think Larry Merchant must be related to George Bush in one way or the other. Atleast fraternity brothers.

Larry Merchant is too old to get with the times. He probably doesn't know how to use his computer properly.

If Larry were 50 years younger he'd still be too old.

Most overrated commentator ever. Theres a reason Roy Jones schools him every time they broadcast on HBO together. To bad Roy is slowing down and slurring because he won't retire already

dana White is right about Merchant old and senile and very disrespectful to fighters that have just lost...I am really surprised that some fighters entourage like someone closer of course to Merchants age have not swung on him...

Merchant is the Chael Sonnen of boxing with his comments...

I remmeber when he interviewed Chris Byrd post fight after Byrd got KOed..

Merchant says to Byrd, "When you were in the fight, up until the punch that knocked you flat on your face"...lmao.. Byrd kinda was like wtf did he just say to me...So disrepcetful that Im sure you could punch merchant and plead not guilty by tempoarary insanity...

in before KPro...

He's butthurt because boxing is hemorrhaging fans to MMA. No surprise here.

"....I don’t get a so-called sport in which you can have a 6-2 record and be called a world champion...."

I don't understand how a fat and way out of shape guy named James "candyland" Toney can be called a world champion.

“I don’t watch (Mixed Martial Arts). I don’t get a so-called sport in which you can have a 6-2 record and be called a world champion. I just don’t appreciate the finer points of MMA."

Let me get this right, in Boxing, you can have a 30-0 record and basically fight nobody's, pad your record, and claim on how much of a bad mofo you are?

I'll take a 6-2 title holder in MMA any day over a bloated, irrelevant boxing record.

if i was Larry, I'd hate the ufc too.

if he went to a ufc event, he'd get so mad. he'd walk around screaming,

"why are all you fans here so early? the main event isnt for another 3 hours!!!!!!"

then when someone told him the name of a fighter fighting on the prelims he'd say,

"You actually know the NAMES of the fighters fighting on the prelims? UFC is so dumb! Everyone knows you get 2 fighters for your main event, then you pad that w/ a bunch of no names on the undercard so you don't give away too much for the fans!"

Basically, boxing is on life support even with Manny & Floyd headlining cards.....imagine, how dead it will be when they both decide to retire in the near future, and in turn, the so-called sport of MMA hasn't even reached it's peak yet.....have fun with that Larry.

Never trust a man named Larry unless his name is Larry Zbyszko.
