Let's try this again.
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson was originally booked to go down at UFC 133: "Evans vs. Ortiz 2" on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia; however, "Vladdy" suffered an injury and "The Mauler" went on to destroy Matt Hamill.
Now, according to the promotion's website, the two have been re-booked to scuffle at the upcoming UFC 141: "Lesnar vs. Overeem" event on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Very tough fight for Vlad. Big problem is that Vlad has a tough time against the heavy hitters and that is exactly what Gustafsson is, but we saw Hamill rock Gusty in their fight, so who knows.

Tough fight for both guys. Vladdy has power, wrestling, experience and Gus is that tall semi-rangy guy with a good ground game.

Can't say I'm excited. The match-up just seems blah.

i disagree.
im starting to become a Gustafsson fan and i always had a ton of respect for Vladdy. so this fight for me is a toss up as to who to root for. i think ill pick Gustafsson to win because his striking is quicker and take a close, hardfought decision.
what i dont get is why it took so long for Vladdy to get another fight? he was in the octagon for like 30 seconds in April...and his next fight is 8 months after???

This is a great fight! I'm glad they are trying to make this one again. The Janitor has looked impressive in his latest UFC run, he's 4-1 with that 1 coming from a Jon Jones beatdown. However, he sure rebounded nicely with that 20 second KO of Jason Brilz. If I am not mistaken, he has been (T)KO'ing everyone in his latest run.
Gustaffson has been impressive as well. I think he is 4-1 as well inside the UFC, never going to decision. His first career loss, and only UFC loss, to Phil Davis is nothing to be ashamed of. Gustaffson has been finishing everyone as well, most recently beating Matt Hamill into retirement.
I think this should be a closely contested, very exciting match-up. UFC 141 is looking like a good card as well, albeit only a few bouts having been announced.

Same here Gustafsson is coming off a huge win even if it was short notice hamil, I was expecting somebody with a lil more name, I actually thought Lil Nog or Ortiz where next for him since Franklin is ducking him.
But its ight I guess especially since Wladdy did stun us with a 1st rd KO of Brilz. But this time Gustafsson is taking his head off.
