Despite two intriguing world-grand-prix semifinal fights and a middleweight championship bout, this past weekend's "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" event averaged just 274,000 Showtime viewers. Of the 18 Strikeforce "Arena Series" events that have aired on Showtime, "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" ranks 17th in ratings history. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the figures with an industry source.

Well, I don't know much about TV ratings, but there were not a lot of people at the arena. I live in Cincinnati and the only advertising I saw for it outside of a couple posters at gyms, was one TV commercial that aired on Sunday. (the day AFTER the fights) It was promoted poorly.

Exactly. Zuffa put little to no muscle behind promoting at all.

And when Dana finally does fold Strikeforce into the UFC and he says something like "we decided to just shut them down because they just weren't getting good enough ratings" we can look at this and notice that it was in fact Zuffa not giving a damn. It's their lose really because they could have made a lot more off marketing it a little more. You could put Anderson vs Jones, Hendo vs Evans and Brock vs Overeem all on the same card and if nobody knew about it, it would have bad ratings as well. And as for the promo after the fact, its not uncommon to see that for other events, although it is still laughable when it happens

There was Bellator and College Football.
The two tourney fights were good, but it's weird as other promotions don't have title fights as the main event.

I assume other "die hards" such as myself made up the majority of the 274,000 viewers. We are fully aware and educated as to who Barnett and Kharitonov are. However, the "casual viewer" and the new fans really don't know much about or have too much interest in the fighters that were on the card. There were no "iconic" names on the card to draw the middle of the road fans and the newer fans in. I can't wait till the UFC assimilates Strikeforce once and for all. We all know it is eventually coming no matter what Zuffa or Dana White says.
