Well this one came out of nowhere. Vitor Belfortannounced on his website tonight that he'll return to the Octagon in November at UFC 139 in San Jose, California against former Strikeforce star, Cung Le, on Le's home turf. LINK

I didn't even know Cung Le was under contract with the UFC. I like this matchup tho, its gonna be interesting to see how Vitor Handles Le's kicks.

Very random, but a great fight. I think Belfort will pressure him and put him away pretty early

If this stays standing people shouldn't write off cung le so fast. He may not have the same Ko power but he has a more diverse stand up attack and is/was a world class striker outside of MMA

I'm glad to hear of Cung in UFC in his hometown and feel this is a great match up.It ought to be a stand up war.

I don't see why so many people are counting Le out. Sure, Belfort could knock out him, that's a given with anyone Belfort fight. But, what people aren't taking into consideration is Le's seemingly limitless arsenal of punches and kicks. Belfort will probably look to engage Le in the pocket and throw short bombs, but with Le's diverse kicks he could easily keep Belfort at a distance and win a decision.

But yeah, this is the first match-up in a long time that has me scratching my head. This will be his first fight with the UFC, and apparently they don't want to build him up as a future title contender, so they must have him for entertainment. Sure, a fight with Belfort will be entertaining, but I'd rather see him go toe to toe with someone like Alan Belcher.

this came out of nowhere lol but this deffs is gonna be a fun fight,I think right now Vitor is just much more hungry since he wants that belt and could come out super aggressive, but I really wouldn't be surprised if Cung Le managed to pull of the upset.

First thought: HOLY **** THIS MIGHT REALLY HAPPEN AAAAAHFHGHKDGKJSG

Once I settled down, I really liked this fight on paper and I, too, am giving Cung a legit chance. Really this is an interesting matchup not only for the styles - both excellent strikers with decent wrestling and grappling - but for the similarities in their performances.

Cung Le has put a striking clinic on Scott Smith in two separate matches. The problem was that the first match showed us a tired, somewhat sporadic striking attack with zero ground game to speak of. He did enough damage to beat up Smith quite a bit without doing enough damage to cripple or knock out, which is exactly the kind of match in which Smith is able to heroically steal (which he did with a few hard punches in the 3rd).

The second match was a different story - Le came in motivated off a reportedly productive camp and drank Smith's milkshake the entire time. He looked like the Strikeforce poster child we'd seen before. While Smith still has holes in his technical striking and has generally had issues with pulling the trigger lately, he's still a very game brawler.

While Vitor has definitely had more ups-and-downs in his career, a lot of that is due to the length of his career in contrast to Le's. Remember when Vitor started with a long unbeaten streak? Cung Le did the same before running into a problem which, at the time, was attributed to his divided focus into the movie industry. Vitor's had issues with motivation as well, though at times due to other causes (his sister's death foremost among them, which was an incredible tragedy and should not be held against the man in any shape or form).

Either way, if this actually happens - what an awesome fight for the fans. Will both guys come in hungry and prepared? Will Cung be able to keep Vitor at bay with his heavy kicking attack, or will Vitor be able to swarm with his hands? Fight's too close for me to call - flip a coin and call it (unless you have insider info into their respective camps and how they progress leading up to the fight).

There are just too many things going against Le here. When this fight happens it'll have been a year and a half since he got in the cage, he's 39, he has faced no where near the same level of competition as Belfort and he's already proven he can be knocked out and Belfort throws bombs.

And Le vs. Belcher would be unreal. I hope they make that fight before Le inevitably retires.
