After 14 seasons, "TUF" is going live.

Among many of the changes forthcoming in the wake of the UFC's new deal with FOX, the promotion's flagship reality show is undergoing a major overhaul for its 15th season, which is scheduled to air in spring 2012 on FOX subsidiary FX.

The show's fights will now air live each week, as opposed to pre-taped and aired over the course of a 12-week season, FOX and UFC officials said today during a press conference in Los Angeles.

A two-hour live season premiere will feature the reality show tournament's elimination round. As with previous seasons of "TUF," 32 fighters will square off for the right to remain on the show, and coaches will select teams from the 16 remaining fighters.

But unlike the show's previous incarnation, the audience at home will have a say in who fights who, texting in their votes "American Idol" style. Following each fight, a new vote is put up.

As before, the lead-up to the live fight will serve as a behind-the-scenes look at the contestants' lives in the fighter house.

"What happened that week will be airing on FX Friday night followed by a live fight,” said FX President John Landgraf.

Finalists will square off in a live finale on FX. Additionally, the two head coaches selected for the show will also conduct their training camps at the same time as the show as it builds toward a pay-per-view meeting.

"American Idol" style

that just made it sound really lame, which it is.

I would rather have the coaches pick the fights, that's what they are there for. They're the ones training these guys and know who matches up well with who. And you're going to leave it up to casual fans. C'mon Man

Having the fights on friday everyweek. I for one will have to dvr it
But the pre show sounds pretty cool

32 live events on fox breaks down to

10 x 2. Live fights each week on two seasons a year of tuf. 20 fights events
Two tuf finales.
6 fight nights. You got 28 events

Then add the 4 big prime time events on fox. You have 32 per year

When are the people going to vote for the fighters to fight, the night of, like friday night.

I bet this voting will be scrapped after season 15 and it will go back to coaches picking the matchups.

I do not think this really does much "better" for TUF.
I think changing the show in other areas could better the show itself.

But I guess this is a step in the right direction at least.

Look at season 1, they didn't even fight to remain in the house, the coaches voted a guy off each week. So the show has gotten better since Season 1 of TUF.

they still fought to stay in the house in season one. if I'm not mistaken they were just allowed to stay after they lost to be training partners and step in incase of injury.

Idk if this really makes TUF better, makes it different.

Need to keep the elimination round though, only way to make it better. And make sure you get the best guys you can from the tryouts or whatever.

Other than that, Idk any other ways to make it better. Voting for matchups and live fights doesn't make it much better or even better at all.
